Hi,

I'm trying to install Yosemite in my iMac 5,1 x1600 with MacPostFactor, but it doesn't recognise the installer in /Applications folder. I have renamed it "Instalar OS X Yosemite.app" (my language is Spanish), "Install OS X Yosemite.app", "OS X Yosemite Install.app", but there is no way, it shows error -1.

The installer I downloaded is the latest one, 10.10.3 version. May it be because of this? If so, where can I get 10.10 version?

Try to setup english as system language, reboot and try again. I think that in this way it can work. As it was for MLPF.

It doesn't work neither in English nor in Spanish. In ML there was no problem, I could install ML with MLPF with no problems.

Otherwise, I've tried to install it manually, with OS X Extractor, but I can't boot from the install partition. It shows an error screen (black background with white letters) for less than a second, and it shows the screen with the apple forever. That's why I'm trying with MacPostFactor.

Macpostfactor doesn't work with Yosemite. They removed that option. You need to use Sfott. You can build your own installer or use the pre built one they have.

Cheers

I had that same problem with OSXE. Whats happening is that the boot.efi that comes with it does not work with I guess and Macs with x1600 graphics cards. The solution to this would be to download the boot.efi from Post #2 and then place it in the proper locations. I'm not sure why the boot.efi from OSXE doesn't work, but the one from post 2 does.

Macpostfactor doesn't work with Yosemite. They removed that option.
This is from the MacPostFactor main post:
v0.2b1 (Public Release)
- 10.8.5, 10.9.5 & 10.10 support
- Removed 64-bit Legacy Graphics Support for older GPUs
- Bug fixes
- App will now detect legacy Mac and prevent newer OS X from being installed.
- Smarter way to detect OS X app in applications folder, and can distinguish versions.
- Upon startup, it will detect Mac Model Identifier, if detected as officially supported systems, installing to internal HDD disabled.
- "Disable GPU Mod" for upgraded graphics Macs support added (No longer have a separate version for MPs/xserve)

The solution to this would be to download the boot.efi from Post #2 and then place it in the proper locations. I'm not sure why the boot.efi from OSXE doesn't work, but the one from post 2 does.
It doesn't work either. It skips that partition and boots in my main ML partition. I don't know what else to do, I simply don't understand why I can't just boot in the install partition, and everyone can even boot in the Yosemite installed system.

so you made the installer with MCPF? when I tried Yosemite didn't even show up in the list and they mention on there site that Yosemite was removed.

Regardless that method is a buggy. You need to select start up disk in ML then reboot rather than booting off (holding optioin then selecting) the USB/ Partition directly.

I can't even launch MCPF, it shows me error -1 (no installer found). :(

Thanks for your help, I've been able to boot in that partition, but it shows me a black background with a white apple and a empty progress bar. And it happens nothing else. :(

I had trouble creating an installer for Yosemite with Sfott. I had the same issue as you until I downloaded the pre patched version. BruceWayne54 mentioned this a post or 2 up. You restore that to a partition/ usb or your choice of your choice. That will work!!! Then you can install the pike script before you do a system/ software update to upgrade to 10.3 or beta 10.4

Yes, that is the one I'm using, the one of the post #2. With the other versions it didn't even show that black screen with the apple and the progress bar.

I have used Pike's boot.efi and I get the same as with the other boot.efi, a screen (grey or black, it depends on the one I choose) with the apple and an empty progress bar.

so it doesn't boot into the os after that? What video card are you using?

No, the problem is not with the OS, is with the install partition itself. I can't boot in that partition to install the OS. My video card is the ATI x1600.

Did you put the boot.efi in both of the proper places? There are two places where you need to place it:

/System/Library/Coreservices
and
/usr/standalone/i386

To view the second location you need to have hidden files enabled

Yes, I put it in both locations, even checked the permissions and locked the one in the first location (with chflags uchg). I've tried also without locking that one, not checking the permissions, etc. and there's no way.

Hm... The only other thing I can think of is did you edit platformsupport.plist? I remember I forgot to do that and my computer completely skipped the yosemite partition and booted mountain lion

Yes, I erased and followed the steps several times, at least 4-5 times, with several boot.efi. I think that with MacPostFactor it will work, but MacPostFactor doesn't find the installer, so... :(

Anyone got the darn Yosemite installed on iMac 5,1 X1600?
Keep getting stuck at empty progress bar after selecting the installer.
Tried OS X Extractor AND MacPostFactor (Maverick) AND SFOTT AND ALL Boot.efi.
My iMac was 4,1 upgraded to 5,1 (C2D) and now running Mountain Lion if that of any help.
Any suggestions?

It's the same problem as I have. The only difference is that my iMac is a genuine 5,1, but I get the same progress bar having tried with a lot of methods and boot.efi files. And MacPostFactor even doesn't recognise the installer in /Applications folder.

I installed it from my Macbook Pro mid 2010 onto a External HDD then removed the platformsupport.plist for it to boot on the Macbook early 2008. I'm still working on the kernels.

Was thinking about a 2007 iMac....Too old?

Have you already tried erasing the yosemite installer and try going through the steps all over again?
