I'm trying to install from a disk partition. My iMac can't boot from USB (since I bought it), I don't know why.

I guess it makes no difference, I tried both options and both FAILED.
I am guessing now that all the boot.efi listed are for Mac Pro not iMac, but what do I know.

if it was too old we wouldn't be here discussing it.
The point is that the guys in here are too smart to explain things in simple ways to us. I for one have read the confusing instructions 100 times and tried all possible options I could comprehend and still no success even though they listed iMac 5,1 as a possibility.
I guess will be waiting for MacPostFactor for dummies..;)

It appears that the bug reports are piling up. Though I can't edit Post 1 (working this out with MR Moderator right now, but might have to wait until I'm a user title 6502a), I am going to start a small screen sharing/Skype intervention tomorrow and Tuesday to assist people hands on.
You'll find the needed applications for Skype and TeamViewer in the support folder of OSXE 1.22 along with some bug fixes.
I and MLforAll will also send more invitations to MacPostFactor 0.2b2 preview 3 to random users on this thread, by email, or Twitter PMs.

Thanks for your patience.

Then i got the message that OSX can't be installed on my machine...

Try it again - carefully and step-by-step according to Post #2 (or Post #1 or this Guide).

Please note Step 12 (modifying the installer) from this Guide (no italic quote marks when adding the Board-ID).

If the MacBook 4,1 doesn't boot after the Yosemite install then you may edit the PlatformSupport.plist again, now in: /Volumes/[Yosemite Drive Name]/System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist .

Tried it again atvusr according to your guide in post #658. Was especially helpful about the quote marks when adding the Board-ID.
No Go. Still stuck at empty progress bar after booting the installer.

TMRJIJ said that 0.2.b2 is being worked on about a month ago. I just decided to use SFOTT

I just sent out more private messages and emails for MacPostFactor 0.2B2 Preview 3 Beta Testing. I am working on a refreshed Guide to replace the current Post 1.

Any idea of what it contains as an update?

Do we have any love for the Nvidia 7xxxGT cards?

Thanks!

Yes please!!!
Anyway, I'm willing to test both MacPostFactor and OS XExtractor now since my schedule has loosened a bit and school is about to end so it would be perfect if TMRJIJ would send me a beta copy :D

OS X Extractor v1.22

OS X Extractor v1.22

macbookyosmav.png

A OSXE update is recommended to assist you in installing OS X Yosemite and Mavericks on your old Mac. Also, by updating the system software of your server, you can enjoy various additional features and enhanced security. Always use to the latest version.
Never download this from any other provider. All links must be from these forums or directly from our server. This is to ensure that nothing was tampered with and that you have the most reliable and tested stuff.

Developers: You have focus areas for this update and OSXE v1.3

This update includes:
  • Performance and Stability Updates
  • Added Support Applications
  • Small changes to OpenGL Beta Patches
  • Fixed AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext in Other Kexts
  • Added Kernel

Download Size: 230 MB

Developer Focus Areas:
  • OpenGL Patches
  • Photos
  • Power Management
  • Wifi

Prerequisites
Tested Macs listed below. Here are the minimum requirements:
- Running 10.7 Lion
- At least 2GB of RAM.
- A copy of Yosemite or Mavericks in Applications Folder (.app file preferred)
- 15 GB of free space from USB or HDD Partition.

-MacBook2,x
-MacBook3,x
-MacBook4,x
-MacBookPro2,x
-MacBookAir1,1
-MacMini1,x (C2D upgraded)
-MacMini2,x
-iMac4,x (C2D can be upgraded)
-iMac5,x

We DON'T assist with Hackintosh. All private messages/emails involving installing OS X on non-Apple hardware will be redirected to another support team.

How to Use It:
  1. Download OS X Extractor
  2. Install it. Choose a version of OS X to get the correct patches.
  3. Open OS X Hackers in your Application and view to corresponding guide the OS you choose.

Good for you!

From what I can tell, Yosemite installation is bypassed if your computer doesn't support it, meaning you have either an old iMac or a Mac Pro with unupgraded video card.
Will future MacPostFactor support it? I am sure it will. Theses guys can do ANYTHING!

So I was too one of the lucky ones to get the updated MacPostFactor! And I would like to contribute my 2 cents, AKA the Bug report.
Well to be more exact, this should be a Thank you report!
For a starter you could easily tell in both MacPostFactor and OSX Extractor that the team has put a lot, and I mean a LOT, of time and effort in these projects, so my hats off to all of them. But more importantly a nice donation from all of is due.

I had trouble getting Mavericks/ Yosemite installed on my iMac and had trouble following all the instructions that seems quite confusing and contradictory sometimes. The good news is that post #1 has been updated and it now has ALL the info you need. THANK YOU!

Word of advice: if you been in the Army you would probably have more success, because unless you follow the guide EXACTLY as it is written you will fail and you will get frustrated. Don't skip ANYTHING, do EVERYTHING it says! Read this again please!

Having said that , if you install MacPostFactor and get error code 3 it will be must likely because your mac is getting bored and falling asleep during installation. Just turn sleep off, reboot, you heard that? REBOOT and start again.

Now for me MacPostFactor installation on external usb drive, even though it went successfully, I found later that some files were missing. Don't ask me why.
For whatever reason I had much better luck installing MacPostFactor on a usb flash.
BTW, MacPostFactor, for the time been, won't give you the option to install Yosemite on un supported mac (old iMac or unupgraded Mac Pro video card).

Unfortunately, in my case, I am still unable to install either Maverick or Yosemite on my iMac 5,1. The problem is that even though I got a perfect installer, every time I choose it from the startup menu, the mac either hangs at the apple logo or revert back to the original partition.
Wrong boot.efi?
Very frustrating.
Having tried different versions of MacPostFactors AND OSX Extractor AND SFOTT I am pretty sure my problem has nothing to do with any of them.
Almost like a security feature preventing my iMac from booting from different partition!

That's all for now.

It's the same problem I have. In verbose mode, it gets stuck in "root device uuid is...". Nothing else.

About MacPostFactor, with the new version I'm getting the same problem, it doesn't recognise Yosemite installer, whatever the name is.

Did all things again with great care, did see the Apple with beneath it the status slider this one filled. So I guess the booting goes well, after this I get the screen where it says, OSX can't installed on this machine. The Plist files are correct modified, no italic text at all. If i use the modified boot efi, it automatically returns me to te original Mavericks... So anyone other suggestions?

Try deleting the PlatformSupport.plist from the main system partition.
