You can try that simply by yourself: make a copy from a working Yosemite on a supported newer Mac with Carbon Copy Cloner, transfer it to your unsupported older Mac and replace the Boot.efi in /System/Library/CoreServices/ as well as /usr/standalone/i386 with the version from here. Works with 10.10.3 - just tested with a late 2012 Mac mini and a late 2006 MBP. It's of course not the best way to install Yosemite ....

Thanks atvusr.
I can tell from your earlier posts that you are always very helpful.

I tried your suggestion but unfortunately didn't work for me. I am sure nothing wrong with your suggestion, but rather what I said earlier, that the most likely problem is something specific to iMac 5,1.
I usually get stuck at a black screen with an apple in the middle, and this follows by either automatically reverting back to the original partition, or it shows an empty progress bar for endless hours. :(

MPF 0.3 still has some problems for GMA X3100 and 950 models. I will probably open up the link tomorrow. Post 4 might be changed to the MacPostFactor guide (now a 6502a title :D).
MPF 0.3.1 will include SMB fixes.

So where is the link?!

Didn't get the new build from Kelian yet. I really don't want to open up the link if this build is known to not work at all for certain models. I'll send another private link if you want.

Hi, I've already posted a reply about this problem, but was able to fix it. however, it has come up again. My bluetooth does not detect any devices at all. I have installed the drivers that came with OSXE and it says bluetooth is on but it won't detect any of my devices. This is a problem for me because I normally use my device in clamshell mode with a bluetooth keyboard at my desk, but I can't do that since it refuses to connect. Is anyone else having this problem, or does anyone know how to fix it? I have a MacBook Pro 2,2 and its obvious which version of OS X I'm running

MacPostFactor v0.3

Once again, great thanks to all the team that put this tremendous efforts in helping us mortals take the leap into Mavericks and Yosemite!
I am in no way connected with the team, and thus I say this with all my heart: "If you were successful, please donate some to appreciate these guys".

For me things, for one reason or another, didn't go as planned. I was NOT able to install Mavericks or Yosemite on my iMac 5,1 C2Duo, X1600.
Haven't given up yet, but after failing with MacPostFactor v0.3, I see my chances as dim.
Not saying that all iMac 5,1 are no go, but I strongly suspect so.
If anyone can prove me wrong and detail their way to success, I would be grateful.
Good luck you all! :)

Looking for more people to join OS X Hackers. We need some people who can provide support and some good programmers who can work around system files if Rootless is confirmed.

I really interested for this but actually my mom uses the macbook (X3100 - SR) and I can't test with him.

If successful run Hardware Acceleration at x3100, I join to test. (I don't think that my moms hears xD)

Thanks TMRJIJ..

I did discover that "Hands off!", and thus possibly "Little Snitch" too, is one of the culprits.

Aside from that, if I use MacPostFactor v0.3 to update the main partition, it fails with error code 3, and if I install it on a different partition, then two partitions are created (Recovery HD and an almost empty one), then iMac tries to boot from that Recovery HD partition in order to start the installation, but it gets stuck at the OS X Hackers screen with an empty progress bar.
Therefore I guess I am not even reaching the point where the installer actually runs and a log with error reports is generated!

Tested and tried MacPostFactor v0.3 on different Macs, all good to go except for iMac.
I managed to bypass error code 3 and actually succeeded in installing Yosemite on an iMac by plugging it in a Target Mode, but this obviously doesn't mean much, because one always could install on an external drive.

Nevertheless, it just won't boot. Or to be more exact, it will boot showing the apple logo followed by an empty progress bar and just stays there forever.
Again, it would boot on ANY other unsupported Mac, just not iMac (5,1).

BTW - What's "PIKE: Returning from LdrLoadKernelCache(2147483662)." that I get upon booting safe or verbose?

It's a message from the Boot.efi - these has been developed by Pike R. Alpha .

Maybe there's a bug with the Boot.efi and the (EFI-) Firmware of the iMac5,1 .

Make sure that the Kernel-file in /System/Library/Kernels/ matches with the installed Yosemite version.

You could try to delete the Kernel cache in /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/ .

Thanks again atvusr..
Followed your advice, replaced kernels several times (including with the one provided in OS X Extractor 1.22), and deleted kernel cache many times to no avail. Very very frustrating.
By the way, I have same problem with Mavericks, not just Yosemite, even though Mavericks is supposedly way less fussy.

Would installing, say, Clover help in bypassing this problem, or it won't make any difference?

Hi atvusr,

Re your post on x1600 kext's:
https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...rted-macs-guide.1761432/page-19#post-20873177

I would be grateful if you, BruceWayne or anyone that has tried it could comment on the level of support this provides? I'm contemplating installing Yosemite on a 2007 MacBook Pro 2,1. I'm pretty sure the CPU is upto it, and the GPU should be also. I only want to be able to watch youtube videos in Safari - will the level of support for the kext you indicate in your post provide sufficient acceleration?

Thanks to you and the team for all the hard work

At the risk of being shouted at, don't waste your time on that old system. Ancient Intel GMA 950/X3100 chips remain unsupported beyond ML (and only with MLPF hack on ML) and, it's my own firm belief, never will be supported (people have been at it on and off without success for more than 3years!). No matter how hard it is to accept, these old Macs should now considered obsolete.
