Hi,, first of all, i got MacBook 13" White Early 2008 Intel Duo2Core 2.4GHz 4GB RAM 667MHZ Intel X3100 144MB,
so, after creating my USB Install Yosemite, i've made reboot, i follow instructions, apple verify, then he simply tell's me that Yosemite is already installed on my Mac,,what to do??
second,,i've made other USB Install, this time Mavericks, i reboot, i het boot from my sffot usb, i follow instructions, i get Mavericks installing, finnish take around 20 minutes, then he tell's me reboot, and even choosing Mavericks partition, he keep's booting from Lion,,
Someone please give some tips,, for almost 2 week's i'm trying to install it,,i've already install Yosemite, but the graphics is not good at all,, is fast like hell, but graphics sucks,,due to poor Graphics card,, whatever, someone had told me Mavericks run's well,, please,, send me feedback, so i can finnish at least my Mavericks install
thanks in advance, i'll post some screen shots,,

Are you using MacPostFactor v0.3? Because you shouldn't be getting verification from Apple unless you are using the original installer.
If have a partition with Yosemite on it connected to your MacBook that might be a reason why it is telling you that Yosemite is already installed.
Forget about SFOTT. Use MacPostFactor v0.3.

i explain to you,, i don't know. but, it is strange, you know, whatever. So if you get an error it is because of him or maybe lion 10.7.5, whatever, i don't now,, you have 1° to install it and then you will see,, you understand?
Anyway, just try OX Extractor or whatever, right? If that doesn't help and you still get an error,, then probably you have an error or whatever.
I hope I explained it real good to you this time,, but whatever.
also, if you post anymore in here then carlos might come and help you too, because his sister is french and she has MacBook too. she has Mavericks on it or maybe Yosemite, i don't remember. but whatever.
so OX Extractor download and install TWICE,, OK?
Good luck to yo. whatever.

I only want to be able to watch youtube videos in Safari - will the level of support for the kext you indicate in your post provide sufficient acceleration?

After installing Adobe Flash Player, watching MP4-Videos in YouTube and QuickTime works on a MacBook Pro with ATI X1600 - not perfectly, but it's usable ....

Many thanks! When you say usable - what are the downsides ? Artefacts etc? My MBP2,1 already runs pretty hot (61C / 142F ) running YouTube full screen. Is it likely to run hotter without full acceleration ?

When you say usable - what are the downsides ? Artefacts etc?

No artifacts so far - rather not the fully frame rate, very slightly stuttering. But again: it's at least usable.

Since VLC-Player and Apple's DVD-Player doesn't work because of the missing Video device: if you install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component then you can also play menu-less DVDs with MPEG Streamclip or MPEG2-Videos with QuickTime. Use the MPEG2-Utility inside the MPEG_Streamclip_1.9.3b8.dmg to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. Dunno if Perian (for older Video formats) still work with Yosemite ....

Maybe it's better to have a triple-boot environment: Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion for working, Yosemite for the latest System requirements and/or the latest Security updates (if Apple stops the support for Mountain Lion in Fall 2015 when OS X 10.11 El Capitan has been released) as well as Windows if you have Apps which require this natively ....

I have managed to get Yosemite running on a Macbook 4.1, still having trouble with the kexts though. Managed to finally get the "about this mac" to say " Intel GMA X3100 144MB" but the menus are still the same and not transparent, i did the safe boot and "sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1" command but still no change, or have i missed something or is this still an ongoing issue?

Also is there an option of Pikes Black.efi for a Macbook 4.1? I tried the one on the Mac Pro thread and it never boots past the login screen.

The menu bar and Finder sidebar will not be transparent because of the lack of Graphics Acceleration.
Please keep the Kext development mode off for future updates.
Also since your MacBook is EFI64, your Mac Does not need Pike's boot.efi hence the reason it won't boot past the login screen.

Ok, so i have installed all of the kexts properly if i have my GMAX3100 graphics card listed in the "about me section"?Just thought that something was still missing since i did not have the translucency. Yeah i decided to not use the Pike.Efi as i was not getting the mac to boot, i just wanted to see if there was an option to have the Black screen with the White Apple on boot up as i saw in the Mac Pro 1.1 2.1 Yosemite thread.

Doing a fresh install as i messed something up when i was messing around with the framework folders. Gonna just install the X3100 kexts and Disable Graphics Acceleration. So do i need to do the Sudo Nvram boot etc command after i install the kexts as i did before, or shall i skip that step this time round?

Do that command again otherwise you'll get a boot error claiming the kext were not sign correctly.

Ok, got it! Found if i did not do it, the login screen would just hang up and i would have to reboot. Think i have to stick with the default boot.efi. In the 2006/2007 Mac Pro thread i have been told that my Blackbook 4.1 graphics card would not have the drivers installed to run Pikes Black EFI.

Also i currently use Opera as my default browser, i am experiencing some glitching and graphic fluttering, i gather that maybe Opera uses graphics acceleration? Works fine on my Lion partition but Yosemite does not like it.

Do not follow the 2006/2007 Mac Pro thread. Your Mac is EFI64 and needs the default Boot.efi not Pike's Boot.efi. This has nothing to do with the graphics drivers. Those are the kexts and they are including in post 1 of this thread.
As for Opera, I will personally look into this issue for you. This never occurred to me before that this browser used OpenGL so heavily.

You can try that but I'm pretty sure with this manual combo update, you can delete it in your Yosemite partition before it asks you to restart your Mac.
I normally just update from the App Store like an idiot and then boot into single user mode or an OS X installer partition and delete the plist. That can work as well but you might end up skipping something that the update normally does at the end. Possibly a firmware check. Idk
So three ways to delete the PlatformSupport.plist ;)
