It's the same problem I have. In verbose mode, it gets stuck in "root device uuid is...". Nothing else.

About MacPostFactor, with the new version I'm getting the same problem, it doesn't recognise Yosemite installer, whatever the name is.

For the Yosemite installer I can say that the one I downloaded from somewhere didn't work either, but the one I got from App store did work even though both looked identical.

OK, so now we narrowed out problem to iMac 5,1 ATI X1600, anyone else?

Try deleting the PlatformSupport.plist from the main system partition.

Strangely, I don't have PlatformSupport.plist in either location on my main system partition, hence nothing to delete. So I instead copied the modified ones from the USB, rebooted and re-deleted them, but that didn't help.

Did all things again with great care, did see the Apple with beneath it the status slider this one filled. So I guess the booting goes well, after this I get the screen where it says, OSX can't installed on this machine. The Plist files are correct modified, no italic text at all. If i use the modified boot efi, it automatically returns me to te original Mavericks... So anyone other suggestions?

See if this of any help:

I downloaded the installer from the Mac App Store (version 10.10.3, the latest), so this is not the problem.

I'm not interested in Mavericks, but I'll try. But I think there's going to be no problem because I'll be able to use MacPostFactor, that I can't use with Yosemite.

Ya, well me neither. It just that I couldn't install Yosemite OR Mavericks, so I am pretty sure there is something wrong that I can't figure out.
And since you have an iMac 5,1 then your ability to install Mavericks (or inability) would be insightful.

Failed to boot from installer

On each boot from the installer iMac either gets stuck on Apple Logo or reverts back to the original partition.
I was able though to catch a glimpse of the following message: " efiboot loaded from device: (xxxxxxxxx(Primary.Master)/HD(Parxxxxxxxxxx
boot file path: \System\Library\CoreServices\boot.efi".

Anyone can help with that?

OS X Yosemite on Unsupported Macs

After spending countless hours, or rather days, I am pretty convinced at this point that you can NOT install OS X Yosemite, or Mavericks, on an old iMac (5,1).
I browsed the internet and couldn't find ANY proof to the contrary!
All posts talk about Mac Pro or MacBooks.
If anyone of you did in fact succeed, then please pretty please let me know!

Its alive!!

See post #40, #41 and #43.
Good luck!

Turns out that the installer couldn't boot because boot.efi had to have

sudo chflags nouchg /Volumes/[Installation Drive Name]/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi

unlocked when booting and not enter the uchg command, but I'll report on it when i'm done the general installation

Cheers

Didn't work either progmistro. Locked or unlocked, there seems to be no boot.efi compatible with iMac 5,1. Period.
At least I couldn't find any, and I do not know of anyone who did find one!

The boot.efi from SFOTT works for me on my iMac5,1 (Pike's, I believe) but it hangs with "pci configuration begin" during the booting. It's apparently a well known bug, typically associated with Hackintosh's. I haven't found a resolution yet. It should be noted that I was not able to use a USB key though, and only made progress by creating the SFOTT key on a partition of my primary drive.

Thanks for the info upbeat.addict, though I am not sure what do you mean SFOTT boot.efi works for you, if you still get stuck a "pci configuration" during booting?!
To be perfectly clear, were you able to install Mavericks or Yosemite on your iMac 5,1 or not?

BTW, like you, I am trying on an iMac 5,1 NOT a Hackintosh.

What I meant is that the SFOTT boot.efi was the only boot.efi that actually booted. The others I used just booted to the original partition. The SFOTT version got me further than any of them. I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't seen any proof that the iMac5,1 canbe booted correctly into the Yosemite Installer. If pgrif can provide us his method, we might be missing something he knows of.

From what I can tell from these posts is that even pgrif doesn't know what he did, and I am not even sure if he did what he says he did.

I spent more days trying, and ended up completely crashing my iMac (can't say nobody warned me ;) ), but of course I had SuperDuper!, so I am back up and running again.

I actually installed Yosemite on a usb stick (using new iMac obviously) and it ran smooth. I then replaced boot.efi in booth locations and added Kernels as per instructions and attempted to boot an iMac 5,1 with it. No go.
But it brings up this question/ idea:

Can someone please SuperDuper! their successful Yosemite partition that successfully runs on an unsupported Mac and post it here for the rest of us?

Wouldn't that be much easier and sure thing to go?

Thanks in advance..

Kelian is almost finished working on MacPostFactor 0.2b2. It will actually be 0.3 because of the large amount of bug fixes (thanks everyone who beta tested). This version will include Yosemite Support.

MacPostFactor v0.3

This version will contain the following:

- Fixes WiFi on 32bit hack
- Fixes Bluetooth on 32bit hack
- Fixes an issue preventing the Recovery's «*rehack*» option to work
- Fixes bugs in the Installer
- Fixes bugs in Recovery
- Fixes bugs with «*OS X Hackers*» bootlogo
- Fixes bugs in the Summary view of the Installer
- Improves the «*Clean Install*» option in the Recovery.
- Improves the Automatic MCPF Hack Updater

- Adds true OS X 10.8.5 32bit support
- Adds little touches in the Installer (like animations)
- Ask you to disable the dock’s glass effect on GMA 950 computers at first login for every account.
- Adds experimental Yosemite installation (No OpenGL)
- Adds GMA950 and GMAX3100 drivers in Recovery and USB Installation

- ******* URLs can be changed at anytime by MLforAll without the need of a new MCPF version.
- ******* process has been improved

EDIT: currently doing some extensive testing. May reveal public link this week.

We are preparing for Apple WWDC Event in June and will work on OS X 10.11 support in OS X Extractor as soon as it is ready for developers. Sources say it might come with some added security measures called Rootless. I don't know how that will affect our work.

You can try that simply by yourself: make a copy from a working Yosemite on a supported newer Mac with Carbon Copy Cloner, transfer it to your unsupported older Mac and replace the Boot.efi in /System/Library/CoreServices/ as well as /usr/standalone/i386 with the version from here. Works with 10.10.3 - just tested with a late 2012 Mac mini and a late 2006 MBP. It's of course not the best way to install Yosemite ....
