Guys. Please help me. I've just created an account to post this.
I'm sitting here since several hours, trying to get Yosemite working on my Macbook Air 1,1. It just doesn't seem to work. In MacPostFactor, I install Yosemite onto the second partition, try to boot it and it just boots into regular Lion. Installing it on the USB drive doesn't work because you cannot choose the installation method. (Known bug)
Same thing with the macOS Extractor method. Installed everything on my USB drive, boot from it, Apple logo shows up and it boots into regular Lion OS. I've tried so many boot.efi's and I don't know what to do. Please help me, I'm so tired of trying it over and over again. Thanks.

How do i boot back into mac os lion 10.7.5?
My goal was to make a yosemite usb installer for my macbook ,i tried using macpostfactor on my white macbook 4,1 2008 with lion 10.7.5 and tried making an installer onto an 8gb usb drive but then my macbook restarted, and now i get a blinking folder icon with a question mark and it never loads up , i just dont understand because i selected a usb to install it on , not my lion partition , all my stuff is still on my harddrive, i seen my 10.7 lion partition intact through disk utility by using an old iatkoss3 dvd , how to i boot back into my 10.7 partition with all my files? i dont have any time machines or original cd's
whats goin on yall! hopefully some one can help me out with this! i am running a 2,1 Macbook Early 2006, i have successfully installed yosemite on there with macpostfactor... so currently there is 10.10 on there and everything seems to be working fine... so i went to update the OSX to 10.10.5 using the app store...i only installed the os update not the recovery update. Once all that is done i go into the os hacker recovery and do a re hack on the os... now the macbook 2,1 boots up to the sign in screen with no keyboard or trackpad functionality. anyone know of a fix to get the keyboard and track pad working again! much appreciated!!!!! thanks in advance! oh ps the only button that works currently while at the sign in screen is the power button i should also mention that its a intel core duo 2 with a 2 ghz processor and upgraded memory to 4gb
Hi all, I would like to share my success installing 10.10.2 into Macbook 2,1. This is into a empty 512GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD.
This MB21 initially ran 10.8.4 for 3 years without problems, and the need to sync iphone/ipad require an update. While I have access to El Capitan, I prefer OS X without SIP, in this case only Maverick or Yosemite. But I have not downloaded any Maverick on Appstore, so my options are really between Yosemite or El Capitan.
I have read both major threads related to installing Yosemite and El Capitan, but unfortunately I am unable to install Yosemite using the method on the first post on this thread. I swap my old hdd on MacbookPro 5,1 to the SSD, and install the normal way using Yosemite.app prepared to usb drive.
Followed from the step 5 and 6. The dropbox link is down for step 7, I skipped that one. Continues with step 8, 9, and 10 but it returned with "Error 5 Input/Output", but I'm sure my SSD is fine, so I also skipped step 10. Continued with step 11 and 12. Shutdown MB21, and swap the SSD into internal disk.
At first it wont boot, it just showing blank grey screen and loud fan on the back. I tried plugging the install usb drive, and tried to boot from the usb, now it shows a grey sreen with a crossed out folder on the middle of the screen. Unplug the usb and tried again to boot from internal disk, but also showing blank grey screen.
Then I swap my old hdd back into MB21, and ran the old ML 10.8.4, plug the SSD into usb, and ran Startup Disk. Set the SSD as startup disk and swap them again.
And voila it boot correctly. Keyboard, trackpad, both usb port, LAN port, wifi, bluetooth are working nicely, I even get a sound connecting bluetooth speakers to the MB21.
Right now running Shady to see more comfortably to the screen, and currently looking to try a few GMA 950 kext this weekend.
I just started trying to install Yosemite a few days ago with the tools in this thread on two older macs running 10.7.5. No luck, the default boot.efi from OSXExtractor is unsupported so I tried Tiamo's 32 bit version. It doesn't boot either.
I installed refind to get some more debugging infomation about the boot process. Using the boot.efi from OSXExtractor, I get "Unsupported". Using Tiamo's boot.efi results in "Not found returned from boot.efi" regardless of whether I use OSXExtractor or SFOTT. boot.efi is there, but it's referring to something missing?
I was wondering, seeing as people have had troubles with updates, as to whether or not I'm making a mistake starting from 10.7.5 - I'm going to try a fresh install of 10.7 next.
Oh, I also wanted to mention that MacPostFactor gives me an error 1 with either Yosemite or El Capitan. Not sure what that's about. Same screen shot as above.

@b251 I have the same issue. Investigating a bit I think that it is due to bugs in the beta kexts that were never fixed. Unfortunately I have not found a solution....
Replacing both AppleHDA.kext and IOAudioFamily.kext got the sound back on the iMac5,1. My frameworks in a System Report under Yosemite states I'm using OpenGL 1.8.1 and OpenCL 2.4.2. I still get empty square corners, but it's only a minor annoyance.
Meanwhile, partial success with the MacBook2,1 ... the install completes but it never finishes booting.
Well, the update to 10.10.5 wasn't so bad (I started with a 10.10.2 installer). I had to delete PlatformSupport.plist to boot after the update, and had to fix some kexts again. One unexpected side effect of doing the upgrade is that the glitches around the corners are gone (upon further inspection the graphics are pretty laggy so I may have to merge the OpenGL/CL Frameworks again). I'm pretty happy with the iMac5,1's unsupported upgrade though.
I'm going to take one more shot at this MacBook2,1
Well, all the boot.efi's that I have tried do not work with this MacBook2,1 Mac-F4208CAA. In verbose mode it always halts after root device uuid. I tried the boot.efi from Lion as an experiment. That boots to the compatibility check. Booting with "-no-compat-check" made no difference.
So... anyone booting a MacBook2,1 to Yosemite? Which boot.efi are you using?
Or perhaps more specifically, has anyone installed Yosemite recently on a MacBook2,1 without the "copy and patch existing installation" method in the El Capitan thread? I might try that next.

My situation was complicated by doing everything manually via the EFI Shell because that did end up working for me in the first case with the iMac5,1. My understanding is that some 64 bit machines still use a 32bit EFI... Refit's EFI shell is 32bit.
I'm in Yosemite on the MacBook2,1 now, just have to add some kexts... Done!
I'm pretty happy with the GMA950 kexts... Audio is working... time to update to 10.10.5...
Verified that the update to 10.10.5 fixes the glitch-prone corners. And there's another security update after that that requires some fiddling with kexts.
The MacBook2,1 has a new lease on life, at least until 10.10 becomes unsupported. Although Maps doesn't work, Google Chrome and Google Maps does work and things like video playback are relatively smooth after installing the GMA950 kexts from MacOSHackers and the audio solution earlier in this thread. As I was typing this, the MacBook2,1 on the bench fell asleep which reminded me that needs to be patched as well.
Maps doesn't work on the iMac5,1 either, however Google Chrome on that machine has a lot of rendering problems and video playback is really sporadic. I can see the full 128MB is detected however so something is still amiss with OpenGL. That is probably a deal-breaker for most users as one of the main reasons I am approached to do something about unsupported macs is because of the lack of browser support in 10.7.5 ...
Tonight I'll install Yosemite on another MacBook2,1. There will likely be more old macs in the shop in the near future to test with.
So I've downloaded the OpenGL Extension Viewer on both machines and confirmed that older OpenGL versions appear to be installed for the GMA950 and the X1600, however, Apple's Software Renderer is still the selected OpenGL renderer.
I don't have too much hope of an OpenGL 1.4 or 2.1 framework working ...
Depending on the computer used and the procedure employed the RESOLVED in the title might be a bit too optimistic...or just too early judging by all the following posts, with all the credits very well deserved by the creators of these wonderful tools! Thank you very much TMRJIJ!!!!!
*************************************************** Good to remember if you use a tool like MCPF to install an "unsupported" newer OSX. Keep a bootable clone of the original "supported" OSX of that computer with its original unhacked Recovery Partition, for instance in a USB key or an external drive. The "special" Recovery Partition ("OSX Hackers") created by the hacking tool in Mavericks can be used for rehacking (if needed) or for doing again a "clean install' of the newer hacked system. However, it doesn't give you access to a Time Machine recovery as found in a normal Recovery Partition.
(Sometimes Time Machine refuses to start and work normally from inside the hacked new OSX). The original kept "old" Recovery Partition will allow you to boot from it and restore the newer system (if needed) from a Time Machine backup of it. ************************************************
A remark for people trying without success to install Yosemite through MCPF 1.0.1
I tried it for several months without success. Mavericks worked in my MB 4.1, early 2008, Yosemite not.
Then one day I run this tool choosing Yosemite and directing it to an external USB stick as the installer, and afterward repeated the Yosemite choice but this time pointing to the inner drive of my MB 4.1, leaving the USB stick installer plugged in. A double procedure with MCPF 1.0.1.
For unknown reasons to me, a reboot allowed me suddenly to begin to install Yosemite.
I don't know if it might work for others users or for other unsupported macs but in despair maybe you give this double procedure a try.
I later succeeded to upgrade to the last version of Yosemite 10.10.5 and to install a security update.
However I had to use each time the AppleHDA kext of the OSX Hackers kext package to have again recognized the built-in microphone and speakers, "disappeared" after any update.
I don't have unfortunately the patched special Hackers recovery partition in case I need to rehack it, as I had with Mavericks, so I keep bootable clones for safety.
A suggestion: MPEG Streamclip, a free, non further updated application, plays some"avi" movies in a hacked Yosemite, while VLC and other players only give the soundtrack. If this suggested player doesn't work with a certain "avi", the HD player, part of the P2P application "Vuze" always does in my experience.

OS X Yosemite on Unsupported Macs OS X Hackers
macOS Extractor and MacPostFactor are apps that guide you through patching and installing macOS Sierra (10.12), OS X El Capitan (10.11), Yosemite (10.10), Mavericks(10.9), or Mountain Lion (10.8) on your older Mac. This thread focuses on OS X Yosemite.
MacPostFactor works for Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite, and El Capitan (certain Models).
Please note that older GPU (GMA 950, X3100, X1600, X1300, X1900, 7300gt, etc.) Graphics Acceleration on Mavericks and Yosemite is not supported yet but this thread consists of many graphical workarounds.
Installing on these models may cause them to have graphical issues as stated in these pages. Kexts are provided to help a little bit.
macOS Extractor is somewhat for more advanced users and should only be used as an alternative to MacPostFactor. This thread consists of members prominent in these patches that can help you solve your issues. Please do not hesitate to post if you have questions.
Apple History
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was the first OS X version with optional support for a 64-bit kernel, allowing booting either with a 32-bit or 64-bit kernel. However, Apple did not support booting the 64-bit kernel in Macs that shipped with EFI32 firmware, even if they had 64-bit processors capable of running the 64-bit kernel. When Apple dropped the 32-bit kernel entirely from OS X, starting with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, EFI32 Macs no longer had an Apple-supported mechanism to boot newer OS X versions.
Fortunately, we have found a workaround for this version of OS X. Here we provide guides in Post 1 and 2 and support for Installing OS X Yosemite on your Unsupported Mac.
This first post is usually updated with recently summarized information, updates, and more solutions.
For those who have 2006/2007 Mac Pros, you may be best suited to using Mr. Zarniwoop's Thread here. The MCPF and macOSE projects are not affiliated with them. We will not contact them either. Some confrontation has occurred both publicly and privately in MacRumors, the site, and other forms of communications and we don't want anything to do with them and their Mac Models. Its simple, don't ask Mac Pro questions to people who don't have Mac Pros. Your post will be requested to be moved to their thread.

Guide to Installing OS X Yosemite on Unsupported Macs
Method 1 - macOS Extractor
ANY HARM OR DAMAGE CAUSED BY THIS GUIDE HAPPENED UNDER YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY!
IF YOU HAVE ANY REGRETS ABOUT DOING THIS TO YOUR MAC, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T DO IT. IF YOU ARE QUESTIONING WHETHER IT IS WORTH IT, YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT TRY THIS.
PLEASE READ THIS GUIDE BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS? WE HAVE TOO MANY EMAILS AND SKYPE MESSAGES TO ANSWER AND CAN'T BABY YOU THROUGH THIS ONE STEP AT A TIME. IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE YOUR WAY AROUND OS X, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS.
Be sure to have root privileges (administrator password) as OS X will prompt you for this on some stage.
A: Preparing The Installation Drive
Make a BACKUP of your system if you can.
macOS Extractor has generally everything you need to patch OS X (There are also numerous other sources that can help).
Get an OS X Yosemite Installer app (Recommended from the Mac App Store)
Make sure your Mac meets the Requirements above
A USB or Secondary Partition to put the patched Installer (A Installation Drive for reference)
B: Start Patching
Install macOS Extractor.
A new drive might appear on your Desktop called ‘OS X Install ESD’. Don’t worry about that. The AutoPatch Tool will unmount that when it's done.
Go to Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files and run the AutoPatch package.
Select the disk or partition (Installation Drive) that you want as the installer. WARNING: DO NOT SELECT YOUR CURRENT PARTITION (i.e Macintosh HD)
(for non 64 bit Macs) Unlock and Replace the boot.efi files located in /System/Library/CoreServices and /usr/standalone/i386 with the copy provided in /Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/Boot EFI/ or from here. To Unlock it, use the Terminal app in Applications/Utilities/ and enter the command:
(If you receive an error, go the that directory and find the boot.efi. Then in the Terminal, enter 'sudo chflags nouchg ' and drag the old boot.efi in the window. Press Enter)
Now lock the new boot.efi file (for non 64 bit Macs) lock the new boot.efi with this command:
When booted click install/continue until you reach the disk selection menu, select the partition you wish to install Yosemite on (probably Macintosh HD) if you are sure about it, else select another empty drive (at least 15GB for testing/bigger if it should be a secondary system)
D: If Reboot Fails
(If the Mac does not reboot to the Yosemite desktop boot to the installation drive again and perform the following.
Boot back into the Yosemite Install Partition
open the terminal at the top menu bar or boot into single user mode (Hold Command -S immediately after turning on)
enter:
E: Install these 64-bit Kexts from the Kexts folder from OS X Extractor
(These will better the graphics by a little but you will not have Graphics Acceleration. Still in beta so they may not work well)
Navigate in your Finder and go to the 'OS X Hackers Patch Files' folder in your Applications Folder
Open the 'Kexts' Folder
Choose your Graphics Card Kext Installer and launch it.
Select the Partition or Hard Drive that you are currently using the patched OS X. Install it. (Admin privileges required)
Restart your Mac
IF your Macbook can't wake up from sleep:
Because of lack of working Graphics Acceleration. Your Macbook may not be able to wake from a display sleep. The Kext Installer includes a NoSleep Extension and Brightness App.
Install MacPostFactor at your own risk. We are not liable if your computer explodes, fail to wake you up for work, lose important files, pictures, porn or simply ceased to work. Always backup your existing installation before installing MacPostFactor or install in a second partition.
We are not aware of remaining bugs...
Although its been thoroughly tested by us and our group of private beta testers, you might still find bugs in it, and if you do find one, feel free to contact us on Twitter @MLforAll & @IsiahJohnson15 or simply email me at voolfy@me.com (@MLforAll's mail) or support@osxhackers.net.
Yosemite Install is EXPERIMENTAL. Try this on a secondary partition.

Bugs (from multiple Mac Models)
Maps does not view the maps
Launchpad is somewhat delayed and choppy
Video don’t play in iTunes, Safari, VLC nor DVD Player (best use Quicktime, the HD player of Vuze and Google Chrome)
Notification Center is sometimes a mess.
Only one Screen Resolution available
Some Apps will have artifacts if primary using Graphics Card.
iMessage/FaceTime note: Most users cannot initially login to iMessage or FaceTime using their Apple ID from their Macs after installing Yosemite as a security precaution. When trying to login, they receive an iMessage Registration validation code. The solution is to contact Apple support, provide your Mac's serial number, explain that Yosemite was installed using our guide and that iMessage isn't working and provide the validation code. Apple then unblocks the Mac, allowing iMessage and FaceTime login immediately and in the future OS updates. They really don't care.

I made a bootable Lion USB. It tried to install but it shows an error message. I open Disk Utility and see a Mac OS X Base System partition that I can't delete.
Don't know what to do. Maybe the device still thinks that my laptop is newer and doesn't let me "downgrade"?
Hi all, I would like to share my success installing 10.10.2 into Macbook 2,1. This is into a empty 512GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD.

Yesterday I had some troubles updating my old MB2,1 from 10.10 to 10.10.5 and I followed the same instructions than you! You can go to post #1 of the El Capitan thread you mention, and now you can see "Method 3" there, and all the Dropbox links are working. So, that's true, it's a method that's useful to install El Capitan and Yosemite.
When you update Yosemite, you must change boot.efi back to the EFI32 version again. And you must modify com.apple.Boot.plist so you have kext-dev-mode=1 and -no_compat_check kernel flags again. Following steps 5, 9 and 10 from Method 3 is all you need to get Yosemite working again. Supposedly, you don't need to rebuild kext caches, because Yosemite, not having SIP, can rebuild them without any troubles.
If it didn't work (I'm talking about the kext caches rebuilding process), you could try deleting /com.apple.kext.caches/ that's inside /System/Library/Caches/ (but, first, I have to insist, be sure you have reinstalled EFI32 boot.efi, and arranged kernel flags in com.apple.Boot.plist file!).
Note: If you have a MB3,1 or 4,1 you don't need to change boot.efi because your machine supports EFI64 boot.efi.
