Not working here at all ...

I downloaded and installed this beta 3_3 and then restarted my MacBook (C2D, 80GB drive (where there is Windows partition formatted in ntfs with Windows XP Home SP2 with latest updates), 2GB RAM). After restarting Finder did not show my Windows partition at all. I tried also Disk Utility to mount that partition but it was all greyed, so when I clicked 'mount' button nothing happened.

Luckily I had a backup copy (made with Carbon Copy Cloner a few days earlier) which I could restore. So now everything is working properly again.

Mounting NTFS with Beta 3

Hye everybody,

Installed Beta 3 without any previous version installed.

As mentioned previously, NTFS partition does not mount at startup.

"Diskutil list" in the terminal.app sees the NTFS partition. Normal Behavior and correct disk#s#

Tried to mount it thanks to the classical way "mount /dev/disk#s# /Volumes/Name_of_disk" but returned me the following error : "Incorrect super block."

"-bash-2.05b$ mkdir /Volumes/MAXTOR_200
-bash-2.05b$ mount /dev/disk1s1 /Volumes/MAXTOR_200/
/dev/disk1s1 on /Volumes/MAXTOR_200: Incorrect super block."

Hope it helps.

Dear rainforest1155,
Does the “/Library/Application Support/Paragon/” directory exist?
Sorry for my late reply. I haven't had the chance to visit the forums in the last weeks.

Yes, I do see this directory on my Mac HDD still having Beta2 installed. It contains these files:
contents-20071104-123058.jpg

I'm currently waiting for Leopard to arrive and probably will update soon. Should I uninstall Beta2 before doing so?

Thanks for any advice,
Sebastian

MAC OS wont recognize NTFS anymore

I have been using NTFS for MAC (Beta version 2) for about 3 weeks and it worked great. The transfer rates between my MACBOOK PRO and a 500 gb USB drive were blazing fast. I could plug in the drive at any time and the system would recognize it instantly and show it on the desktop and the finder windows. This is truly a great piece of software. There is no difference between transferring 300 files of 1mb each or a single file of 4 gb, it works every time!!

That is, until i installed beta version 3.3 and it borked the config. The drive is no longer recognized no matter what combination is attempted (have the drive plugged in at startup, use disk utility, mount the partition manually, plug in after system has loaded, etc). I have tried uninstalling the 3.3 driver and reinstalling version 2, but noting happens. When the driver is uninstalled and no other is loaded, OSX takes over an loads the drive again, but in read-only mode. I have tried to install/uninstall both versions several times.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I even tried manually deleting all the files created by the installer and still there's no way to make 3_2 work after installing 3_3.

Well, this is kind of the different experience from what I have seen. Uninstalling beta 2 didn't restore the read-only OSX support for me. I haven't tried beta3 and probably won't after so many people had problems with it. Hopefully, they'll come up with a solution for your and my problem soon.

In the meantime: DON'T USE BETA 3 anymore.

I have the same problem. Reinstall beta 2 and you should have your NTFS support back until they come up with a solution for it.

What's not working for you with Beta2, why did you want to remove it?

Uninstall everything and it should come back to life. At least that worked for me. I'm using MacFuse (sooo sloooowww) until this works again.
Well, that's exactly what doesn't work for me. Uninstalling won't bring me the built-in read-only support from Mac OSX back. Therefore, I installed the Beta 2 again until they resolve this issue (or I do a archive and install of Leopard).

This one worked BUT it doesn't let me access files named with foreign characters. Back to MacFuse...

Downloaded beta 4 but, since most of my files contain Greek characters in their names, I'm not willing to try it and lose access to them.

I wouldn't worry about data loss, when I uninstalled it everything went back to normal. It's still a beta though, so you never know...

Anatoly,

I haven't had the occasion to give this a try yet, but I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome you're working on this product. Full NTFS support in OSX is way overdue. It's a must for the Mac to break through to mainstream, and it's critical for many of us to manage Windows and OSX on the same machine.

I really hope you stick with it and produce a rock-solid, 100% reliable product. If so, I'll certainly be a customer.

Then you should get Apple to pay you a fortune and get it included in Leopard.

Dear Forum Visitors,

Thank you for you feedback. I uploaded our last beta 4. The release version will be almost the same excepting some insignificant changes. Please note, this is a 10-day trial version.

The issue when a Windows partition disappears is fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Dear xcuneytx,
Yes of course, you can move files from Leopard to Windows Vista partition.

Dear rainforest1155,
Uninstall the Beta 2 and then install Beta 4. Beta 4 should works without any problem.

Dear federicog,
What foreign characters does not our driver support? Please let me know. Thanks.

We are planning to release the product this week. The most active beta testers will get the product for free. The rest will have 30% discount.

Please test this final beta 4 as much as you can. I hope you will not find any issues ;)

Thank you all again.
Anatoly.

Dear federicog,
What foreign characters does not our driver support? Please let me know. Thanks.

It's a bit strange. I have a directory 'Papá' and it works fine. However, some of the folders with foreign characters inside my iPhoto Library (my iPhoto Library is in an NTFS drive) appear without their icon and when I try to open them, they dissappear. (I attached an image so that you can see what I mean).

Also, I had some folders with custom icons (added using MacFuse). They appear with the default icon with Paragon's implementation of NTFS.

Thanks!
