And we'll never know since they "forgot" to include anything as a baseline to judge by. Would have been a slam dunk if they had, huh?

Eh, I think it's fair to assume that he has been running Mari on comparable systems hardware wise to the current Mac Pro.

Pity nobody thought to drag one out on stage. Maybe they were all busy?

We are about to introduce new GT620 and GT630 cards for existing Macs.

When I go to convince people it is a better choice than GT120, am I going to say "It does 6.21 Whizzbangs per second, trust me, THAT'S FAST !!!" or am I going to show that it leaves GT120 in the dust by any test I run and show my confoidence in my product by including repeatable tests?

If you have something that proves your point use it. One guy saying "Golly gee this is fast" doesn't mean anything.

Since that guy based it on experience, while you base yours on nothing, it means a whole lot more at least.

Not even a little bit..

So we have one guy with actual experience with the new Mac Pro running Mari.

That's all we got so far.

We put that up against people who have never used it, their statements can not be based on anything but hypothesis.

You should try to not talk in riddles and make actual arguments.

Yes.

Any other questions?

This isn't complex stuff, ole boy is running his software on a 12 core Xeon with a couple firepros. That makes it comparable. Load a Maxed out mac pro with a coupe firepro's and see how it compares. We know how the FirePro ranges bench's and we know what Ivy-E benches at so as adults we can make a comparison.....there is no magic.

Yes but this macVidcards, germanychris and desperate pete. They have spent each and every day since the new MacPro was announced ripping it and anyone who disagreed with them to shreds, in unison with each other, across the entire MR forums site.
Dont dare create your own professional opinion.

The only problem with that assumption is the quote from the Mari guy, he must have seen many other examples of, as good, or better "out of the box" experience if what you say is true.

Really? he should let me build him a box.

Again nothing in the current tube is not replicateable in the current box.

How very true, some people get very emotional over this.

I have??

I've asked what new it brought to the table that makes it a "must have" in many threads. If you cannot answer that then it's a waste of a couple k.

What does the new MP bring to the table other than TB?

For a genuine mac pro?

TB
USB 3 built in
Ivy Bridge
PCIe flash storage
Dual top top end graphics as standard
4k support (x3)
Tiny (important to plenty, certainly pretty unique among workstations)
128gb max ram

All brought to the table for its line.

Unless you're comparing it to all other computers that have ever existed. In which case I have no answers.

Ivy still isn't here yet..

USB3 matters to some folks, but I use eSATA. Check out the USB3 thread here people have been adding USB3 to Mac Pro's in '10

We've had flash storage for a long time, this is nothing new.

96GB is max in OSX, burt not in Windows so dude that has 256GB installed will use 96 in OSX and 256 in Windows..

If I have dual FirePros I have 3x 4K support

I answered your question what does the new MP bring to the table in relation to other MP's, which is I think what the majority will be looking for, if they already are tied up with OSX.
My post clearly states this. There is no point bringing up what other hardware manufactures do to beat apple in terms of specs. its been that way for a while. Its not really the point. You said, several times, "what does the new MP bring to the table apart from TB". In relation to other apple pro hardware, I answered it.

You clearly haven't read a thing I've posted. I've been pretty objective the whole time and have repeatedly stated I'm a potential buyer. I'm waiting until we get a price and I can see real world performance. But the fellating of Apple in these parts gets annoying to the point where it's difficult to have a reasonable discussion.

don't you get it?

This one runs mari good.

Guy on stage at apple's request, giving apple approved presentation said so.

All true and "new" to the Mac Pro line. But the way some people around here talk, this is some sort of technological breakthrough as far as hardware is concerned. It's not. Aside from the Ivy chip, nothing is new. And the competition are going to have 16 and 24 core machines along side Apple's offering.

What else do we have to go by at this stage?

Do you have any tests you have performed on the new Mac Pro?

Thats the point though surely? Other hardware makers have been out speccing macs for years. But we still use macs.
