A Cry For Help! Laptop boots to black screen because I'm an idiot!

17" 2011 Macbook Pro.

I made a 6 pinned adapter to press on to the pads but just couldn't get it to flash so had to solder wires on.

Everything was looking good until...

I accidentally knocked the programmer off the table mid flash - pulled 5 out of 6 solder pads off in the process!!

Does anyone have a schematic of where the pad traces go so I can pick them up somewhere?

Failing that - any other ideas? Get a microscope and try and tack on to the traces?

Heeeeeelllllppppp...

**UPDATE**

Just had a look through a microscope and may be able to save it. Looks like one pad 3V3 is through board - can I just take a voltage off something else?

Game over - smoked my laptop.

Anyone else out there thinking about it - think very, very, very carefully about doing this...

Dude, removing 1 single resistor and following a very simple software procedure, you can bring to life your mac...

i did that with at least 5 machines, one of the them I kept it for me, and never a single issue with El Capitan

I really did think Dosddudes method would be easy enough. I've been flashing and soldering for years but this has just been a total **** up for me. Totally gutted...

Thanks for that Antionio 👍

Firstly - thanks to Dosdude for his understanding and issuing a refund.

I've calmed down enough now to have another look at the laptop and see what went wrong. I seem to have fried the U700 chip - I guess something shorted out when the wires came off.

So I now have 2 issues - bad Gmux chip and U700.

One solution is to trade this logic board in for one that has Dosdudes original GMUX fix - the one with all the wires!

Has anyone figured out a way to change the brightness (other than the DyingLight method) like he did with the flashing method - using the battery button?

Thanks for any help...

Hello guys!
I am trying to bring my old macbook pro late 2011 back to life, disabling the chip like in the photo. I am not a good welder and I am helping myself with a cheap usb microscope. I accidentally lost those two components.
If I continue with the repair, will it work?
Thanks in advance
Dear friend, do you have such wiring diagram for disabling the GPU in a 17"?

Please don't judge me, I know the topic is about MacBook, but there is a way to do that for iMac 24" 2009 early, like wire mod or something?
iMac also has AMD graphics card mxm type I guess and Nvidia integrated too.

I have another iMac with integrated GPU only and then I wonder, maybe if I change the CPU from that iMac it will work! Or maybe not.

No, it is not. This is only possible due to the MBP's dual switchable graphics implementation. For the iMac, just replace the MXM card.

For brightness control you can use QuickShade app (free in Appstore) .

If this is similar to Brightness Slider, I don't think that will actually change the backlight brightness after demux, that is what I am referring to.

Yep, the similar one. Works with DosDude1 dGPU software patch, I haven't flashed the FW yet.

Right, @dosdude1 was mentioning that it will be possible to get the backlight keys actually controlling the backlight again, but would require some additional wires being soldered.

I don't know what the big deal is with having the keys do brightness. I just use brightness slider.

@Analias, if you scroll up through the last few pages, you will see the context of this. Brightness Slider doesn't truly dim the backlight, it just changes the brightness of the image on screen, but backlight is still full blast.

The point I am referencing here is being able to change the backlight brightness with the backlight keys, while using demux firmware. The current demux firmware allows for the actual backlight brightness to change with the battery indicator button (with one wire installed), but @dosdude1 is planning on a version of demux that would restore full functionality and control of backlight with demux software (but a more complex solder install).

Hi, I'd like to buy a lattice progammer kit from another user that's done with their macbook and have it sit idly in one place. I'd like to give my macbook 15" 2011 a try with dosdude1's gmux app. I also placed an order from China, but they said it might be delayed till July.
I appreciate anyone who are willing to share this tool. I will pay for every fee invloved. Thank you

Are you high? Explain to me how it is possible to change the brightness of an image while the backlight is still at full brightness?

Stay calm. There's no mistake in his words. Apps like Quick Shade or Brightness Control just make darker the image on your screen using overlay. It's not the "harware" brighness. Set the "brightness" to the lowest, and see your apple logo on the back of lid - it's stays the same through all levels of brightness.

I can ship one from Germany if you like, it even has the little "adapter" I've done for my MBP and how my update went few pages above.
I was waiting for the brightness control version, but it seems that will never come anymore :(

Cheers,
Mircea

It will come, don't worry. It's just a very difficult implementation is all, and I haven't had enough time to sit down and work on it.

can you share . file rom gmux flash 820-2850-a 17"
Not needed on that system. GPU is not defective. If you're having issues, it's most likely due to failed C9650. If the GPU is actually bad, new, good chips are available to replace it with.

Hi dear friends @dosdude1 , is posible share the diagram and programing for DyingLight control, sorry for the insistence, but need this for some control backlight and ebay links is off and not have other solution for this macbooks. please help-me whit this collaboration information, or please gimme a link for buy some of this units.

thanks very much for your time.

Help! I accidentally pulled TCK pad while was switching it on, is there any other place I can solder it?
