I don't pretend to be a professional photographer, most of my current photos are taken with my iPhone 11 pro. Which to this day I still don't know how to use the features of the camera. But I try. Out of the thousands of photos I have most were taking years ago with a disposable camera. By your standards, I only have a handful of photos which would be deemed worthy of posting. (And of those photos the subject was my CAT Bella, she was the only one who would pose for me) I come here and enjoy all the photos the "quality pictures" as well as the "awful snapshots poorly composed and exposed." Thanks to all who post photos.
Look I'm not a professional either. Just Macrumors clearly has two areas.

One the digital photography sub forum for people interested in photography
Two the picture threads where people can post pictures of their cat/dinner/watch etc.

Lately there doesn't seem to be much point in having the two as they all seem to be the same to me. I just preferred it when there was more quality in the photography and less quantity.

Thats what happens when you are an old timer. Things change and you just have remember things aren't what they used to be.

BTW I have nothing against cats or cat pictures. I just think there is a difference between a photo and a picture. I have probably less than a handful of photos of my daughter. None of them are of good quality (I've never shared any on here for example). But to me they are most precious photos. I would keep everyone of them over the thousands of other images I have. But the truth is they are not good photographs. Just all I have left of her.

Ha yeah I couldn’t help it. I do have a picture somewhere of my cat eating a hopper (a locust - i used to buy them live for my lizard) but I wasn’t gunna do another cat post lol don’t wanna annoy peeps.

My focus is pets. I work with them, studied them, and have many. Although i do like taking pics of flowers lately. I dont have a camera though

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I personally would prefer less text and more pictures. If people feel that the thread is ”stuck”, well, try to push it somewhere else…by posting a photo.

No need for “more quality” -whoever the arbiter for that might be - or any variation of “less is more”… why would it in this context? It’s the photo association game thread… not the Guggenheim collection of selected & curated masterpieces of forum photography, isn’t it?🤓

Go crazy… be adventurous… enjoy the ride! 😎

I always enjoy quality photos. The rest I just skip over.

I agree about the text thing -- seems as there has been more and more yakking, both in this thread and the POTD thread, sometimes by people who aren't even participating in the photography association game or the POTD in the first place. Sure, brief discussion of a technical point ("how did you get this effect?") is fine, or a "wow, that's a beautiful image!" comment is certainly welcomed, but text-only posts interjected into the thread adding personal anecdotes which really aren't relevant are rather annoying and they also interrupt the natural flow of the game so that one has to scroll back to look again at the last image to see what it was before finding an image of their own to contribute.

This game was meant to be a fun challenge for participants.....

I actually don't mind the chatting, in general. This is meant to be a fun thread and I think sharing personal stories isn't that out of line, given that typically the story relates to the photos in some way.

I do admit the cat photos seem to be overwhelming at times, but I'm usually only posting flower photos (at least in POTD), so who am I to say one specific subject should be banned? No, not going there either.

I also tend to share the sentiment that the quality of photos could be better, but again, I'm not going to be the arbiter of that, and we all start somewhere, and we all have a differing definition of what makes a "good" photo.

So in the end, I think the thread should just go along as it has, and if certain photos (of cats, of flowers, of boats, of whatevers) annoy you, then either change the association, wait it out, or stay out of the thread. And a little bit of friendly banter never hurt anyone, either, and this is coming from the extreme introvert.
