Wherever I hang my hat...
I needed a photo of this place (it's part of a long walk called the Pennine Way) for a book. Unfortunately, there's nothing much there, except for a long trudge from Tan Hill (the highest and most isolated pub in England) across the wastes of Sleitholme, and back into the hills again. So I used a bit of stone wall from a sheep pen in the foreground, and got some quite dramatic light... including a very odd rainbow which seemed stubbornly earthbound. So this will have to do...

Thanks joe king, BarryJ, TheReef, MaddMacs, stagi for your comments on my prior post (strobed shot of Jason.) It was definitely challenging working with the gear in the weather, which changed constantly--sunny one moment, blizzard a few minutes later. I have to be grateful for weather sealing on my camera and lens. The temps were around 18 degrees F and windy during that one.

I'm really enjoying your photos... folks in your part of the world... and Doylem's... cannot take a poor landscape. You have so much history at hand. Keep posting! BJ

Okay, here is another food picture... Hopefully some improvement, otherwise I am going to give up on food pictures for now. At least until I am able to get a book...

Pan seared rockfish, grilled portobello mushrooms, southwestern potato hash, grilled ramps and roasted tomato salsa.

The food sounds great! My suggestion, ditch the white plates. Try using some plates that have color, pattern or interesting shape. The white round plate just doesn't do anything flattering or pleasing to the eye nor the food. Keep at it.

For a while now i've been waiting for the right conditions (blue sky, bit of wind, mate who can control a kite) to take a photo like this. Finally got my wish the other day.

..Yesterday I was out, camera on tripod on a rock with me holding it while taking a photo (not the above) and face up to eye viewfinder, big waves comes, and goes. I think nothing of it.

Set up tripod for next shot realising I'm missing a tripod leg :(
Can't believe I didn't notice it was swept away, especially since I was using it!

So today being tripodless (now duopod :p) I took out an old mini point and shoot style tripod that I had and it cracked under the cameras weight :(

Part of a sequence of shots from yesterday!

The rest of the sequence can be seen on my flickr!

Really love this, perfect timing on the capture and wonderful light/colour/detail.

Mine for today , another wee sunset shot taken yesterday evening at Troon.

My dad found his almost 30 year old Canon AE-1 Program. He wasn't sure if it still worked so I took it home, bought some film and a new battery then went out and took some shots. Here's one of them from the first roll:
