Lol... How is the wee fella? He settling in OK? He is a rescue dog if I remember correctly. He certainly looks a cheeky chappy so I guess is right at home now with you and Mrs M slaving after him is he?

Great picture, fantastic pose!

Don't make fun of my old eyes, young man!

;) <-----That emoticon seemed appropriate in so many ways.

He's doing great thanks mate. We've had him for three years now. Can't believe it's been that long already. He's definitely a fully paid up member of the MacRy clan now. We had a bit of a scare with him a few months ago when he got attacked by an Akita and had to have major surgery to remove his salivary glands on his right hand side, but otherwise he's a little champ.

Lol. No problem.

I'd have thought that it was fairly obvious to anyone with at least one eye themselves.....

Well, actually.....it's not. Also, people looking at an image come to it with certain expectations and....well, many photographers tend to have more expectations than the casual viewer. My first thought was, "why no highlight in the left eye? Did the photographer not expose correctly? Are the blacks so black that I'm missing something? Upon closer examination I realized that something was not quite right but I still wasn't quite grasping the overall situation here. In other words it was not immediately apparent to me that this dog is missing an eye. I was viewing the image on a rMBP 13" -- when I get around to firing up the iMac with its (non-retina) larger monitor I'll take a look again and see if things are more obvious there.

Ah, but, yes, there is the possibility that my own eyesight just isn't what it used to be, either, having just recently hit my 7th decade....... LOL!

Nice. I had a pigeon in the garden earlier but didn't think it was worth shooting with a camera. Maybe an air rifle?

Love this!

Thanks, guys.

Not really a picture of the day, but I finally worked up the confidence and got it be of my images printed large and got it framed! Not an amazing image but I like it. Laird Knox must feel awesome in his own gallery!

Congrats, Kenoh -- it will look sharp up on the wall!

Is the fellow on the right with the hat a statue, Alex? I seem to recall seeing him before in one of your photos.

---

Another against the black background for today. I just started seeing this fellow in the past week or so. Although colorful, he is also quite the bully, aggressively chasing the other birds away from "his" feeders.

This is just a cracking photo! I'm a fan of the hummies and for such a small bird they act like they are the size of a condor. "No Fear" epitomizes their character. The hummies that frequent our backyard all act like little bullies and tend to fight off the others from "their feeder". In fact they will take their drink then sit up in a nearby branch just waiting for some "poacher" to come in. Then the fun begins. They are a blast to watch.

One-eyed dog? I'm a one-eyed photographer. But, like the dog, I'm used to it now... :)

A rare sighting of the King, now reduced to busking, in Machynlleth...

Image

Interesting, I also have only one good eye... At least it doesn't take two to see a good picture though!

Very nice!

The thing I find most satisfying about large prints is talking to people about them. I have had several conversations with people about the pictures and the technique, location, process and intent.

Enjoy your art. :)

Thanks, zagato27! They can definitely display a little attitude. Most of the ones in my yard seem to be fairly tolerant of each other, and only get mildly aggressive if they are fighting for a spot at particular feeder (I usually have several up). But for the past few days, this little fellow has behaved just as you describe -- he sits in a tree, on a hanging pot, or at a feeder, and then darts around to aggressively chase away any other bird that comes near any of the feeders. I think the others may have wised up today and realized that he can't chase them all away if they all show up at once -- I arrived home this evening to find eight birds taking turns eating from four stations at one feeder.
