No prizes for guessing what this is!

P.s. is it just me or is there a way to get a retina embed from Flickr as the pics always seem to come out slightly soft unless I click on the Flickr link?

Was walking past this electricity pylon earlier and scrambled underneath to try and get a shot up through the centre. Disappointingly I didn't nail the symmetry as I kept nearly falling over from shooting straight up. A shame I couldn't lay on the ground underneath it but there was a load of thorny undergrowth down there.

Not usually a fan of pylons. They spoil lots of my landscape shots. Never thought to make them the subject though.

Yep, you can't spit without hitting one where I live so most of my landscapes/sunsets etc. are spoiled by them too. So I thought why not.

Pity, I'd like that garden view! I like the composition. A good shot. I might clone out the half boat about halfway up the tower though. My eye finds it a little distracting.

Cheers. Now that you point it out, I'd be inclined to agree. I'll repost a newer post-version.

Great idea MacRy - if you can't beat them...like the composition.

Cheers

Here is the edited version as suggested - definitely an improvement. I need to take more time and look at the details: very easy to get focussed on the big picture....

Needs more flight training

So there I was snapping photos of a drake mallard when he and his missus decided to fly a short distance (about 10 yds).

He was not hurt after this except for a knock to his pride, but this was funny. The fact he's slightly out of focus adds to the photo imho.

Pentax K3 18-135 lens

As soon as I was done snapping, I thought, "This fella needs to go back to flight school and re-do the landing part" :) lol

This is how they get the boats in and out of the water at Abersoch, North Wales. The guys driving the tractors worked incredibly fast. When one of the tractors lost a wheel :)eek:), two other guys managed to tow him back to shore before the tractor was lost to the waves. I get the feeling this kind of thing happens quite a lot...

Better. I'm always missing those little details in my own shots.

Wonderful shot, Doylem! And this is in saltwater?!

I'm tempted to go on one of my "800 pixels wide max...are you serious?" rants but they've never accomplished anything so I'll just keep quiet.

Last I heard from one of the Mods was that it was an incorrect setting which got my hopes up, since then I've checked back on that thread and from what arn says it seems that's not the case :(

https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=19435329#post19435329

so, pretty sure this wasn't changed recently.

So, ya the reason it's 800 max-width in css is it breaks the formatting otherwise. See below.

It would be terrific if there was a layout option for 1024px. It doesn't effect page load times, as a lot of people here are still linking ~1024px images.
I've asked arn over in the linked thread.

But can there not just be a retina option that halves the size or something similar?

It's annoying because the shots are beautifully sharp on Flickr and a bit lacklustre here!

EDIT: ...And whooopsss. I've solved my own issue. Just load up a higher res shot and it will constrain it back down to 800! Bottom was 1600px wide!

Thanks. Yes, saltwater. I watched the guys on tractors convene on the stricken tractor. One guy lifted up the side where the wheel was missing, while another guy attached a chain. Between them they managed to get the tractor back to harbour. I was impressed at their speed and resourcefulness. I would have been standing there, stroking my chin, wondering what the hell to do. But they just got on with it! :)
