There is no way I could ever be described as being holy and righteous! :)

Depends on the surrounding words no?

I could be....

A-holy and self-righteous...

Ha ha, at 5' 6" and a bit, and just under 10 stone, I'm not about to break anyone.
I seem to have steady hands like my dad did - here's one he took in the 1960s hand held at 2 seconds ...
Bowl Of The Night (Medway Camera Club Highly Commended) 1963 2 secs F4 hand held by William Graham Russell, on Flickr

Oh, and that FE 70-200 that you made me buy is pretty good too ;)

Cheers :)

Hugh

Ha ha... No WAY! 2 seconds handheld!?!?!? was he made of carbon fibre!?!?!

Here we go again... Ken's fault I bought an awesome lens that I love to bits and that gives me joy to use it....

 you are welcome...

And to be a man of the church, you have to 'like' children...

I love your sense of humour. It is like skimming a stone over the waters of appropriateness. Frequent glances off the surface but never quite breaks through into the sea of offensiveness...

Yeah the stones eventually go in but that breaks the metaphors so just go with it...

No idea, he was good, very good, but on that particular evening I would have been only about 5 and probably oblivious. But he wrote "2 secs F4 hand held" on the back of the print, so it must be so. Would have probably been Ilford ASA 100 film as that's what he bought in great reels and made up into film cannisters.
Sometimes I wish I'd listened to him more and learnt a bit before he passed away.

Oh, and thank you Ken for recommending a superb lens. Is that better?

Cheers :)

Nice. All you can do is get better and prove to him you did actually take notice, you just took a while to process it and put it into practice but respect to the man who takes a tack sharp 2 sec exposure hand held! I mean we all know that is almost impossible for most of us...

Lol... I like to know I add value to my friends in helping them learn from my mistakes... :)

I read, somewhere in my misspent youth, that Caesar made the 'Veni, vidi, vici' proclamation as he landed on England's shore.

Unfortunately the locals thought he was describing the first three natives that he met, 'weenie, weedy, weaky' and were so insulted that they declared war.

From the book 1066 and All That by Walter Carruthers Sellar and Robert Julian Yeatman.

Ah! is this where your shot came from for the comp?

You are correct sir. One of the numerous art installations put up in downtown Baltimore a couple of weeks ago during the Light City Festival. This one is by OGE Group out of Israel.

Are those people on the left part of a wedding? Popular spot. Must be weird to take wedding photos while the paragliders almost hit you on the head.

Well yeah and the brides must be really disappointed to be right next to another bride who is more pretty/nicer dress/better looking groom etc... way to ruin her big day!

Right!

Yesterday evening I decided to give the D800 a workout - if I could.

I thought a good, detailed, refined sunset would be the target. Yeh right!

Well, cold shaking hands, watering eyes and complete brain failure on bracketing, frame size etc. etc. etc..

Return home, cry a bit and with Shostakovich crashing away on the stereo mashed the above up!

No pretence at being anything other than a digital plaything. What do you think? The image looks a lot duller than I see on my screen so perhaps if you can imagine it a bit harsher/brighter you will get the picture:p.

Regards. Sharkey

ps. mashed up in Affinity Photo - getting the hang of this software finally:)

Lol. I actually found myself free at sunset time last night but when I looked outside it looked rubbish! Then another evening when I am busy the sunsets look beautiful!

Mate, I have these moments every time I pick up my camera!

This is a good image IMHO. I like the rich colours. Maybe warm it up, straighten the horizon (sorry cheap shot) and lift the gorgeous detail in the foreground rocks. other than that it works.

Story of our lives mate... driving home with kids from clubs, no camera, stunning skies of fire...

Carrying heavy bags of shopping in from the car, skies of fire, run in grab camera, moment has passed...

Camera ready beside you, free pass from the boss to go stand outside in peace and quiet? cloudy rain, no life in the sky... DAMNIT!!!
