I usually don't post photos of people, specially of family and friends as this one. Ian was his name, my loving son who passed away on Saint Patricks Day at the age of 38. I was lucky enough to take this impromptu photo of Ian a few years ago when he was grilling hamburgers for his coworkers on a rainy day. He was my oldest son.

Thank you all. His full name was Ian McClenny Fernandez. Yes, it has been very hard for our entire family, specially my wife and I. But at least he had quite a full, although short life with a great number of friends. When we arrived to Alaska on a military move he was a very young child, and grew-up experiencing the outdoors in the interior of Alaska (camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and so on). He just loved the outdoors. He started working at the University of Alaska as a student, and then continued working there for a period of twenty years. He leaves behind, besides my wife and I, a younger brother and two sisters, plus lots of close friends and their families.

Sorry to hear that. I have too few photos of my daughter who is now no longer with us.

Where did serve in Alaska? I was part of the design team for the hospitals at Elmendorf AFB and Ft. Wainright.

I worked at the Civil Engineers squadron in Elmendorf, and left in 1982. After serving two tours, one in Sacramento and another in Northern NY, my family and I were stationed in Eielson AFB near Fairbanks where we arrived with Ian in 1987 and then retired in 1994.

Yes, it is perhaps the most difficult thing for any parent to go through, since no parent wants the children to pass-away ahead of them. I plan to post a couple of photos of Ian as a child in a day or two. He died on my late father's birthday.

After leaving the "PET RECYCLING" at McDonalds, we passed a beer machine enroute to the train station where another surprise awaited.
While I am sure the Europeans recognized it immediately, for everyone else that didn't, PET is the abreviated phrase stamped on the bottom of plastic items identifying that they can be recycled. But beer? I've had some fine beer - and usually insist on it over water swill - but never any that even looked or tasted like chicken! :D

there is a beer can chicken recipe that is popular, but it's done on a grill; not sure how it would work on a rotisserie.
