Taken just near yesterdays picture, in fact, if you look closely at yesterdays, you can see this seat on the side of the dirt track.

Taken after the sun has gone down and not as beautiful as yesterdays. Even though it doesn't have the lines or colours of that shot, I still like it, in an oddball kinda way.

A trail less traveled

Took a ride up into the mountains west of here to a ghost town. Unfortunately, the late afternoon was cut short by a sudden thunderstorm. Very dangerous this time of the year what with the severe dry conditions and all of the fires out here in the western US. This was a spot just off of "Main Street."

Do you get a lot of fly tippers round your way? Nice shot, but I prefer the colours of yesterday more.

There are over 300,000 birds, including over 100,000 northern gannets in this unique national park in Québec. They nest in a dense colony near the cliffs, occupying only a portion of a small island. The colony is growing rapidly, and from the observation area (just a meter away from the nesting grounds), it looks like the entire landscape is covered by gannets, both on land and in the air.

That's a lot of birds!

Trying to shoot more and more now!

A picture of my friend Katherine sitting on my bed! Slightly missed the focus on this one but I only took the shot to show her I could do B&W in camera and how nice the light looked! An extra 5 mins and I could have done much better...

As always, comments appreciated.

Thinking of shooting some B&W film on an upcoming trip . Resurrected my Eos 1 and have been taking a few rolls to get back into the hang of using film again.

This was taken at night time, in a little market in Rhodes along the harbour. It was quite difficult to PP.

I used my 50mm f1.8 lens with no flash.

Edit - I've been revisiting it!

Shot 3 rolls of 120 HP5 when I was away in France and really enjoyed the whole process.

I have to say though that will the power of my 6D I'm not sure if I would do it if it wasn't medium format size.

What's given you the urge to dive back into film?

Logged over 10,000 kms on the drive from home to Newfoundland and back and that didn't include over 20 hours on the ferries.

This one is on the Cabot Trail (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia) on route to Newfoundland.

This area of unused pastural land is now a common tip point for those that can't be bothered paying to dump at a recycle centre. The family that owns the land are sitting on it for redevelopment into another housing subdivision. In the mean time, it can become the site of a series of quirky sunset shots for me.

Ace, you have captured a lovely and emotive picture of Katherine here, the soft focus adds all the more to her beautiful femininity.

I love the balance of shadow-line and the s-curve of the road. A great start to your recent trip Peter, I look forward to seeing more.

Several things , actually . Stumbling across some prints I did in college in the late '60's , catching the Bill Brandt exhibit at NY MOMA and the Civil War photography one at the Met , finding some books of pretty pictures by Ansel Adams , Edward Weston , and HCB in one of the local libraries , and being curious about the viability of several rolls of long expired B&W in my fridge ;along with an upcoming trip that will include a few days in and around Yosemite (hopefully the fires will be dealt with by the time I'm there , really don't need any more scenery to be pre black and whitened ). It's still pretty questionable as to whether I'm going to bring a film body and a couple of rolls , especially given the ease of B&W conversion of digital . Pretty sure there's no advantage shooting 35mm. film vs. full-frame digital from a technical viewpoint ,so if I do , it would be purely for entertainment purposes. Probably be an easier call if my film gear was 645 though.

Who would have thought, I was to Newfieland (as I have come to affectionately call it) this July/August too! Also logged just over 10,000km roundtrip (on my motorcycle). It was the second time I was on Cabot Trail, and I have yet to catch it with clear blue skies like in your photo, it's been grey, cloudy, and downright rainy to me. Waiting to see more.

Thanks. To think I almost deleted it in camera! In LR I just popped on a new B&W preset I had created et viola! It just seemed to work.

If you have space in the bag then I would give it a go. There is that great feeling of unknown and hope as you have the exposed rolls in your bag.

Just be careful you don't get hooked back onto it as I have learnt that it can be quite a costly hobby!

Thanks! Nice to hear!

It was my friend Emma's birthday at the weekend and the theme was head gear. Believe it or not, Alex doesn't have a giant brown afro and is instead a natural blonde!

Iso 6400 on the Canon 6D and to my eyes it's perfectly clean! Not a bad word to say about this camera.

As always, comments appreciated!
