If you have space in the bag then I would give it a go. There is that great feeling of unknown and hope as you have the exposed rolls in your bag.

Just be careful you don't get hooked back onto it as I have learnt that it can be quite a costly hobby!

Think I will .. I remember the anticipation of picking up a bag of prints , kinda like getting a box of candies when you're a little kid . Plan on doing my own developing , still have my tank and attendant gear , I'll run over to B&H for some small bags of D-76 and Kodak Fixer , and scan rather than print the negs. If it works out OK ,if not , well I've still got my images from my 5D2 . You're right about costs , had my test rolls developed and scanned commercially , and couldn't believe the cost.

If your developing yourself then definitely go for it! I love the excitement as I pull out the roll seeing that it is correctly exposed! Only lost one roll so far a few years ago when I was about 15. Still sure those were the twelve best shots I have ever taken!

I love the balance of shadow-line and the s-curve of the road. A great start to your recent trip Peter, I look forward to seeing more.
Thanks John!

Ahhhh. Getting closer to home. I can smell the salt breezes now! 10,000 klicks you say.... worth each and every one. I'm looking forward to this :)

Barry

Worth each and every klick indeed Barry. The only downside to Newfoundland was leaving to return to Toronto.

Who would have thought, I was to Newfieland (as I have come to affectionately call it) this July/August too! Also logged just over 10,000km roundtrip (on my motorcycle). It was the second time I was on Cabot Trail, and I have yet to catch it with clear blue skies like in your photo, it's been grey, cloudy, and downright rainy to me. Waiting to see more.

In Newfoundland, we were very lucky with weather - almost no rain at all, lots of sun, some overcast skies, some very moody type skies mixed with sun, we had mist and we had fog. Many days great for photography and typical of the island from what I understand.

The morning of the Cabot Trail there was sun but, as we started on the west side of the trail, the sun was coming from the wrong direction and by afternoon…rain, rain, rain.

I don't know about you mumu but I had trouble getting any really great shots of the Cabot Trail drive. The drive, listed by many as one of the top 10 in the world (National Geographic), is incredibly beautiful. From a photography point of view, I had trouble getting nice wide-angle shots that put the landscape into perspective as there is only a tiny ribbon of road between mountains and the ocean. Best view for photos may be from the water. Awesome drive though and I imagine a lot of fun on a motorcycle.

Very nice. It just works. Might take some discreet toning, to make a print to hang on the wall?

Thanks! Nice to know that you like it. Are you suggesting that the shadow is maybe a bit too dark? If so, I actually had someone else suggest that it was a pity that the shadow was too harsh.

A great showing of how powerful raw images are, I decided to see what it would be like with virtually no shadow at all.

To me the image isn't as moody but I would love to know what others think.

Kind of an accidental (not planned) shot, that I chanced upon while trying to capture photos of a hummingbird in my backyard.

Great silhouette. Provides a new perspective on what is quite a common picture.

Thanks. I really like how this turned out. As mentioned earlier, I wasn't planning it or paying attention to the shadows or lighting. It was pure chance.

I agree with you on your portrait shot there. The 2nd version is not as moody. There isn't enough light/shadow play on her face.

There is probably a happy medium between the too.

Out of interest do you have 2 accounts on this forum? What is the reason for that?

I have 2 flickr accounts so I have been prone to it myself but what's your reason?

Yeah. I couldn't remember the password for the old one (from years ago), so made a second one to log in. But my work PC has had my old login saved for years, as I recently discovered, and still posts from the other account.

I really need to clean all that up. Thanks for pointing it out!

Was playing around with using LV to focus. Keep meaning to hang those framed photos....

IMHO, the second shot is very good but the first is truly outstanding Archie. The shadow on her face accentuates the mood of the shot and fits perfectly with the composition.

I'm in agreement with Pete on this. Here's mine for today. One more from this past weekend's jaunt into the mountains. I used NIK's SEP for the B&W conversion and processing.
