Every year in mid-July, Butte, Montana hosts a free 3 day folk festival with electic bands from all over the world. This year was no different, but we had the added photographic pleasure of weather moving through making for some interesting photos. Here's a photo of some street mimes at the main venue, The Original Mine.

I am really sorry for this joke butte I couldn't resist....

Is that a Butte-hole? - sorry childish.

Considering it was active for 100 years, and that they didnt have the modern mining technologies - which are risky enough - then 43 fatalities is a good safety record I would imagine?

Nice documentary photo. Can't imagine having to put that much body paint on to go to work. Are they really a gold colour or is it the post processing tones you have used?

The Muriwai colony is about 1/3 full now as the birds return to nest.

Very nice. You must have been quite close with that lens. Gives me hope to someday get a decent bird in flight shot with my current set up.

Another one from Stowe.

Yes about 20m, the colony is quite accessible with a couple of good viewing platforms about 10m above the 2 mainland rock platforms, the other 1/3 of the colony is on top of a rock stack about 100m offshore.

You're not the first to mispronounce B-you-t and probably not the last. They were indeed gold. I did use a preset with a bleached application to the original photo which gives it a more bronzed look. Here is the RAW shot I took immediately before the one I post-processed:

Nice sharp shot of the city.

The shots of NYC got me digging through some slides from a trip to Manhattan back in the early 70s. This one was taken on 2nd ave and around 30th street I believe. I tried to clean up the slide but there was still a bit of debris on it.

Don't clean it anymore. That is fabulous!

I am heading over in November for a week to Atlanta and stopping off in NYC to see my Bro in law.

Suggestions welcome of must go photo locations.... new thread maybe?

I love looking at old photos of cities and NYC in particular. Please post more if you have them!

You mean an NYC thread? Sounds good to me. I had a great time in the city. Hope to go back in the spring.
