Late afternoon snack.

Unrelated: My new GPU for my Mac Pro just arrived (previous card had malfunctioned). No sooner do I get the new card installed that the LED clamp-lamp at my computer desk goes bad. o_O

I've been reviewing old pics to print. This is from a trip to Italy in 2013. I posted a version of this in last month's POTD thread. The image has been haunting me. In the version I shared before, I left my feet in the bottom of the pic to give a sense of orientation--it was shot from above looking down. It's part of the street and not a wall, for example.

But the image has been bugging me, feeling close but not quite there.

So I did another edit. This time cropping out my feet and also doing a guided transform in LR making each side of the grate "straight" relative to an ideal shot from above. In other words, making it a "perfect" rectangle.

I think I'm happy with this version :)

I like your update sans feet. I did a similar shot on my trip to Italy last April. Mine was cast in Salerno and not in Rome. And the picture taken near the Basilica of St. Maria Maggiore.

I've made posts in various threads relating to the image quality of an iPhone compared to a dedicated camera. Also commenting on the importance of shooting RAW vs JPEG.

Sharing a pic from 2006 from my honeymoon in Greece. The camera I had with me was a Nikon Coolpix S3. Pretty much inferior in every way to a modern phone camera.

I took this pic on the island of Santorini as the sun was setting, bathing the scene in a warm light. It's an amazing place and incredibly photogenic. If I was going back there today I would take a different camera and walk away with "better" pics by almost any standard--both because the gear I would be using was better and also because I am a better photographer than I was in 2006.

For this pic I ran it through Topaz labs Gigapixel AI to increase the resolution and also ran it through Topaz labs DeNoise AI. Tweaked the original JPEG in LR prior to the Topaz labs edits. Changed the white balance to make it a tad cooler than as shot (personal preference).

There are many problems with this pic on a technical level. Nothing is sharp in the image. Many areas are mushy messes. Despite all my tweaking in post, there are significant artifacts in various parts of the image (most obvious are color artifacts, but those aren't the only ones). In hindsight I would love to shoot it again with a "real" camera.

Having said all that, I still like the image. Wouldn't print it big as the artifacts would be too nasty for my tastes and the lack of sharpness would bug me, as would the mushy areas. But I may print it with a long edge of 6 or 8 inches.

I like the composition and at a small print size the lack of sharpness and all the artifacts would be somewhat hidden.

So this serves as an example (at least in my eyes) of where an inferior source file can still end up being usable. You don't need to have the latest and greatest for every shot. Much depends on what you need to do with an image in post to make it look like how you want it to and also what your final output will be. And also if your particular subject *requires* the use of specific gear.

Nah...after the Cayman a ‘sporty’ SUV just doesn’t do it. Since I can’t afford a Panamera I’ve gone for Volvo. Bit of a contrast but it does the comfort job nicely.

Great tonality and subject

Like Volvos and am interested in their new electric version BUT should have held out for the Panamera. What a super car! My beast on the Porsche Experience. Well, I know how you feel. I'll never be able to afford one either. Heard that the base Taycan starts in the low 90's..... now that's gonna be interesting. If you're looking for affordable, the new C8 Vette starts at 60k, what a deal.

Taycan would be more like it but when it comes to the UK it will be a lot more than the US price if every other car is anything to go by. Hold on though, with Brexit approaching I can see it getting even more expensive...The new Corvettes are night and day better for European roads than the older ones and bring great bang for the buck but I don't see me getting one. I'm told the Volvo has (by necessity perhaps) made me a more relaxed driver - probably not a bad thing at my age!

Here's a shot from NYC. Hand-held at night but not bad. Comments always appreciated.

I watched the C8 reveal, and they even said this model is designed to accommodate steering wheels on the right side. It’s usually considered one of the better “everyday” sports cars when it comes to being a daily driver, so maybe you can use that bit to help your cause. ;)

Waterfall in Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom from a trip there last week. Shot and processed on my iPhone XS Max using Lightroom CC camera long exposure mode. I left my camera gear at home this time and I am impressed more and more with what can be done with the iPhone. A polarizing filter would have been good for this shot, but quite happy with the result anyway.
