This is a pretty common scene in the Sonoran Desert during monsoon season - powerful thunderstorms dumping significant rain on the dry and dusty desert landscape. These storms build up during the late afternoon and then move rapidly though the metro area leaving destruction in their wake. It's not uncommon during the peak monsoon season to see a storm like this every second or third day. This photo is looking southeast over our back wall.

Getting ready for Monday's launch of the Artemis rocket. Destination - moon, but unmanned testing - and due to its power, the neighboring National Park where this was taken will be closed for the launch. Otherwise, it is a great place to view, hear and feel low orbit rocket launches.

There are a couple closer on the drive, but this is parking lot #1 of 13, from the elevated walkway over the dunes. Will post from a closer ground level roadway pull-off tomorrow.

Dang! You are lucky to witness the history. Amazing and inspiring stuff! Please keep us updated with the 🚀 rocket launch. I’ve been waiting for the 🚀 to launch. It’s almost time.

Are you able to go to the other side to watch the rocket or is that area blocked off? What does it feel or sound like when it’s going to take off? Is it super loud and stuff? I’m guessing it is…

Apartment building fire, January 2004. One of my first times in the bucket on a ladder truck. It was going to be too hard to retract it during operations so I had to climb about 75 feet (while dodging tree limbs) to climb in. I was just glad my pictures turned out. Good way to cure a fear of heights...
