Another gull shot

Test shot with a newly acquired 70-300mm VR, 300mm, 1/30, F11, ISO 400, just before the heavens opened.

These lenses won't get sharp photos at full range with anything under f8, but I think I'm finally getting a little used to it.

Comments welcome please...

Hugh, that is a excellent picture of the gull! Keep up the good work.

You must have read a different version to me. :D
Is that a new background or location?

That's a lot of glass. What was the event? Premier?

Want to start working with a wider depth of field but lighting wasn't optimal.

It was a "photo day" event at the Los Angeles Zoo, put on by a local camera shop back in November. The chimpanzees are to the left of this frame. To the right of the frame were another 4+ rows of photographers on raised steps with all sorts of high-end kit, including some shooting at the super-telephoto stations (300mm/2.8 on up to the 600mm fast lenses) the event sponsors had provided. The poor folks who were at the zoo to, you know, see the animals must have been a little overwhelmed by the roaming herds of photographers lugging tripods, multiple camera bodies, and assorted high-end gear around.
