That's another keeper. Are you shooting from a bird hide?

Thanks AFB. No, no hide. Barred Owls are typically not shy of people. At one point it flew and landed about a metre from my feet. They are very aware though and will constantly scan the sky and surroundings for predators like Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks.

That's a pretty good start. I'd suggest you tone down the effect in the clouds. I personally don't like the "drama clouds" look, unless there's a flavor reason for it. Of course you're welcome to disagree since it's a taste thing.

That's a really interesting comment (meaning let's debate, not that you are wrong) because I thought the clouds were untouched. I took some images in the US last month and I was amazed at the sky in my snaps when to my eye the skies came out similar to this SOOC. I put it down to the Voigtlander lens I was using and it's colour signature. So have these been excessively "breathed on"? Or are they pretty much as seen on the day?

I do agree BTW. I don't like the heavy handed HDR approach. Having said that of all of my US trip pictures from last month, the one that seems to delight people the most is a mangled HDR sunset. Makes me cringe yet a friend has had it printed large and has hung it over his fireplace! Humbling, looks lovely but really? Along side my pictures of Antelope Canyon (proud of those), that's the one he liked... So I get your comment. Just curious.

When I look at your photo, the sky has areas that look too dark to me. It's almost black in some parts of the blue area. I know that in the middle of the day with white clouds in the sky there isn't going to be a nearly black sky. The clouds themselves look too detailed to me as well. These are signs that the clarity (to use the Lightroom adjustment tool name) of the sky was set high. I usually paint over the sky with a lower clarity and set the sharpen mask to not affect the sky very much.

Of course this is all artistic license. Sometimes a dramatic sky is the look you want. I think this photo benefits from the dramatic looking sky to add to the menacing look of the giant robot.
