So yesterday I posted this picture of a cardinal in winter. It got a very good reaction, and thank you!

But I know what you're thinking. "OK, lkalliance, you can get lucky and get a nice picture of a cardinal like that. Bravo. But can you do it AGAIN?"

And to that I say, "Ha!"

Three things:

--I didn't remember this picture until just a couple of days ago, and it had nothing to do with my topic for this week's photo contest. And of course they're not in the same picture, but how appropriate is this!

--Even though this bird was still, I still have to shoot as if he's about to fly off. So I get a little rushed. Pet peeve: in my rush my camera got focused on the twig in front of him, and not on him. Grrrrr. At phone size, you can't tell. And I really couldn't tell in the viewfinder either. I habitually shoot with a wide-open aperture, just my preference, I like having a nice bokeh on these bird photos, and it maximizes my shutter speed...but a little narrower aperture and it wouldn't have mattered.

--I had a second picture of this same cardinal, with his head turned towards me. I thought that since this one was a mirror image of yesterday's, I'd post this one, though I like the other one a little better, because he's looking at me. And then I thought how funny it is that I anthropomorphized this bird. In the other pic his head is facing me, his beak is pointed at me...but he's not LOOKING at me: his eyes are on the side of his head, not the front. It's actually this photo where he's looking at me.

Just a rusty old lock on a dilapidated barn door... l love shooting old, rustic things — well-worn wood and rusty metal clasps, locks, hinges, etc. This was taken on a trip through southern Indiana on one of my visits back home ... with my knees starting to fail me, I don't get out as much as I'd like... so I pour through my archives looking for interesting photos of things, and (sometimes) reliving the memory of capturing the image.

I would like to see a cardinal [bird] too!
Nice second shot!

💙 Impossible, 🔝 Unattainable, ⚠️ Caution.

Symbolizes something that is impossible to achieve, something that is unattainable that will only remain a dream that can be realized.

A hope for a miracle to happen.
