Lovely atmospheric urban shot; and you can feel the cold. Brrrrr.

Personally, I love walking in cities, especially cities where old and new intersect, and I love strolling, and absorbing urban atmospheres, at night. Cities are places where exchanges - of ideas, of trade, commerce, thoughts, styles, occur, where you have people meeting in public spaces, cafés, theatres, pubs, shops - where the old and the new collide - have always taken place.

While I am not normally one for rural delights, your shot makes me almost want to take a brisk, but thoughtful walk on that particular path.

Very well done.

Many thanks Scepticalscribe - some cities more than others.....Chicago was a great example of what you highlighted as attractive. Photogenic as an additional bonus!

Re titles, what about 'The Road Less Taken' (as a sort of homage to Mr Frost)? Anyway, lovely picture, the sort of picture that has one thinking indeed about roads less and not taken……and where they might lead you….

Brilliant pictures, both of you. Really excellent, and wonderfully respectful of the birds, too. Great stuff. An absolute pleasure to view, and would not be out of place in a proper, professional nature (or ornithological) work.

Well, Sceptical, I'd love to be able take a contemplative stroll, or any stroll for that matter, along this path on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it's the Pipiwai Trail in Maui!

Don't the speed lights scare the birds away?

Awsome shot btw.

Thanks, AFB. Some of the birds are more skittish then others, but the speedlights generally don't seem to disturb them. I had the shoot-through umbrella set up about 1-2 feet from the feeder for these shots and was usually able to fire a few frames off before the birds would fly off. If anything, the shutter noise tends to startle them.

Many thanks, Scepticalscribe. I am fortunate enough to find these fellows in and around my backyard for much of the year, and "winters" here in Southern California are far more temperate than the sub-zero conditions that Cheese&Apple endures to bring back his amazing shots.

That is the best hummingbird picture I have seen in ages! KUDOS!

Thanks, JamesMike. I typically prefer the bird-in-flight photos, but I do like the detail that can be picked up when they sit still for a few seconds.

Beautifully taken shot, gorgeous composition and lighting. Where exactly in Dublin was it taken? (I know Dublin pretty well).

I'm amazed at the quality of the owl and hummingbird photos this month - unfortunately not the kind of wildlife in my location:) I'll have to make do with some more urban stuff...comments always appreciated.

The Bean and I

Ah, lovely. Really gorgeous. Actually, I'm a huge fan of urban landscapes, and this is really excellent. Where exactly is it, may I ask? Very well taken, I love the lines, and that mellow colour.

Cheers Scepticalscribe. The shot was taken from underneath the Cloud Gate (aka Bean) in Chicago's Millennium Park. The mellow colour was a combination of early morning light and a slightly yellowish tone to the paving. The novel bit is really the lack of other people:)

This is intriguing, and makes one want to know what s going on; the black and white really make it. Very interesting and well taken shot.

Thanks - it is a wonderful shot, I really like it.

I'm still enormously impressed by the extraordinary images of Snowy Owls that Cheese&Apple has shared with us, and with MCH-1138's stunning hummingbirds. As some others have already said, more please.

Thanks for enlightening me; it is still a lovely picture.

Indeed, it is the sort of shot though, that makes you want to take a thoughtful stroll, one of those solitary contemplative walks, where you mull things over, with a silent companionable complicity from the surrounding nature as you walk, fairly slowly, taking things in….while working things out.

Happy year of the sheep! I was born in a sheep year. August and November are the best months for a sheep, and I was also born in August. I guess that makes me the best I could be. :)

Wow. When I first saw this, I thought it was some weird reflection on a tuba.
Great shot
