Very nice. Was this in the wild?
Heres a male lion who has unfortunately been made castrated.

Shot at Knowsley safari park so not as exciting a venue as yours!

Thanks AFB. Yes, shot in the wild. Interesting to see the difference between zoo lions and wild lions. Lions are pack (pride) scrappers by nature...hence the facial scars that are just a normal part of survival in the wild.

That said my lion was a pretty old guy. In the wild, male lions don't get that old as far as I'm aware (because the youngsters run them off). You can see the difference in the intensity of the eyes. Wild looks more alert. Maybe just a circumstantial thing but the wild Lion looks like it is fancying some rare canadian for lunch.

I think there was also some drugs involved. Not really something I've ever had to think about! You can see the difference in the intensity of the eyes. Wild looks more alert. Maybe just a circumstantial thing but the wild Lion looks like it is fancying some rare canadian for lunch.

So, do they shed their manes when castrated? I thought blokes kept their hair better without the giggle berries interfering? Fantastic shot AFB. You should go back with the new paparazzi lens.
Thanks. I'm sure you could do the same. What made this trip different to the normal safari park I go to was I wasn't driving as well. It was with these guys.Good point. Awesome image AFB.
That's really nice Peter. As usual

I think the eyes would pop more if he used his 50mm rather than his 500mm!You should have given his hair a brush before taking his photo!

It was my understanding we had contracted the safari guide to do stuff like that for us but apparently not.

Great picture. Love this one. What's the exposure?
Thanks CmdrLaForge. 1sec f11 at the 70mm end of a Canon 70-300.
Here's another from further down the same stream but with faster shutter speed. Comments always appreciated.
