I was looking at the reflection and light and didn't see the bonus of the aluminum sun reflection

nikon f100 + 35mm

this is actually the same photo, just one without the sprocket holes and one with.

I was pleased to find out that I still know how to meter on film! The dynamic range on this is of course way less than with digital, but I love the sky retention that I didn't have on digital. I posted a few digital ones from this same scene in November.

Today's photo submission is of a different BIF: this one doesn't have feathers! :D. Yesterday I was out on the boardwalk shooting and when I heard him, I looked up and decided to grab a shot. Unfortunately I didn't bother to adjust my settings to compensate for the backlighting of the sky, which I should have done. It's not unusual to see these guys flying overhead, due to the relative proximity of my neighborhood to DC, military installations and airports.

My lady's very 'busy' den corner -- in front of her Macbook Pro, surrounded by all the "stuff & such" for her artistic creations. Photo taken in Dec/21 -- celebrating her 92'nd birthday tomorrow!!

A big "Thanks" to everyone for the 'likes' and 'loves' ..... we're off to her birthday lunch soon, with son & daughter .... her choice for venue & fare - no surprise, Chinese food at a favourite Szechuan restaurant.

Good shot. Helicopters are incredibly difficult to shoot. The blades turn too slowly to get some decent blur.
Thanks! I had the camera set up for shooting sometimes fast-moving birds on the water with the hopes of maybe getting a BIF or two if they took off, which they didn't, but hey, I got my BIF anyway! Yeah, to get blur I would have had to dial down my shutter speed significantly and I didn't do that, nor did I use the exposure compensation dial to adjust for the sky backlighting.

I was surprised when I realized that this was one of the military helicopters rather than the others we also get flying around overhead here as well (for example, we're close to a tertiary-care major hospital center and sometimes we see helicopters heading there with a patient destined for emergency/trauma care). This helicopter could've been transporting someone important from the Pentagon to another location.

Looks like the helicopters they use for Marine One
