Why is that an odd choice? Seems like it was an excellent choice. ND filters have many uses. One of them is to do exactly what you did--prolong the exposure to remove distracting transient elements.
I keep seeing the days getting longer but it doesn't do anything.That’s the forecast for Tuesday night here. Can’t wait!

Here is a reminder, taken last weekend. OK, it dropped below 60 degrees...but I didn't have a coat on, just a long sleeve shirt...and the breeze off the lake was a bit nippy but blocked nicely when away from the shoreline.
