still practising. (30mm, 1600ISO, 1/90, f6.7, yes @Apple fanboy I need to raise the shutterspeed even more. And get more light. Don't know how they will react to a large speedlight. Perhaps it will literally freeze them...)
We used to have someone on here shoot hummingbirds with a large background and speedlights. Our birds are scared enough if we change the bird feeder!

Are those manatees?
Yes. When the cold weather drops the water temp, they need the warmth to survive and congregate around the springs and the short spring run to the river which are a constant 72 degrees year-round. Blue Springs State Park is one of two premiere viewing areas, the other being north of Tampa at Crystal River which is more commercial with dive shops supporting swimming with (passive swimming/snorkeling - manatee must come to you, the reverse is illegal harassment). There are other viewing areas, some man made such as Tampa's Power Plant that discharged their heated "cooling" water that creates other issues if ever want to close/move the plant, and other areas naturally heated but the water isn't as clear.

When the temp drops into the 30's, there can be up to 300 manatee in the short (3/4 mile) spring run, however, their food supply is in the St Johns River, so they have to take a cool dip and return to warm up.

The Great Orion and Running Man nebulae in Orion's sword.. Pretty rough and put together from JPEG rather than RAW files so limited scope for post-processing. I'm pretty happy with it as a first attempt. The partial circles are likely a result of some stray light source. Represents about an hour of capture during one of the few clear nights recently.
