A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to get a shot of one right after she'd just caught a fish. Haven't been that fortunate again since. Hoping that 2023 will be the year!

Another photo from Friday's big swell. The rocks along La Jolla Cove are home to many California brown pelicans, and every once in a while dozens will take flight all at once, circling around and then settling back down pretty much right where they were. When that happens you can shoot the pelicans or shoot between the pelicans. Which is what I did when this surfer spread his wings to take a wave.

i’m terrified of heights but this looks really peaceful to me.
I've always found that heights aren't as concerning when you can't tell how high up you are

It's not the height that terrifies me. It's the sudden stop at the bottom of the fall.
