Second photo from Friday's big Pacific storm-fueled swell. Peak wave height with high tide was at 8 a.m., and after that was a gradual though slow decline. The waves were still quite big in the morning, but for a while no one went out in them. Then the first surfer paddled out and found his spot. The sun was coming out at that point. He had the waves to himself for a while before a second and then a third surfer joined him later. This photo is from his first ride on what looks to be the biggest wave anyone took, it was definitely the ride of the day. He was cheered by the crowds that had gathered on the bluffs. Another photographer near me laughed and said "this guy is gonna have a gallery all to himself. Fifty photographers and one surfer." He may have been including the people with their phones in that number, but I think there were easily 20 photographers who were there for this. It was an incredible ride on a day I won't forget.

All about being in the right spot at the right time, for both the surfer and photographer with great skill.

Really nice. Which Canon lens was that?
