I admit it can be a bit twisted at times.

Btw, your shot reminded me of some featured recently on Fred Miranda (I think). The photographer used a Nikon 200mm f/2.0 for absolutely amazing subject isolation and clarity of people on a beach.

It's already been said, but fantastic isolation of subject. Nice colour and light too.
Was same here in Glasgow horrid horrid weather... beautifully warm during the day but you know you are paying for it at night.

Might I suggest a crop for this specific photo?
I really find the square format to draw more the attention to the door and wall, the unseen endings of the plants on the right makes the shrubbery appear more plush and the two diagonal lines (the wall and the path) become more evident and contradicting direction-wise
I am no authority on photography, just a suggestion

Interesting interpretation. I'd have never thought about going square.
What I liked most in the picture was the contrast of the blue door to everything else, hence I'm not as keen on the B&W.
