I like the mood and the lighting. The dark shadows and detail of the water are great. Nicely done. Maybe though if you had managed to not have the people on the pier it would have been slightly cleaner

Thanks Kenoh. Yes, people are a bit of a nuisance when trying to take photos- don't they realise what they are doing to my composition?:) I must admit in this case I was ambivalent to their presence but not in others...

Slowly, since I bought the Nikon 610, I’ve been weaning myself off the idea of using a tripod for every shot. It was a bit odd to start with, since, for the last 5 or 6 years, I’ve associated a tripod with ‘proper’ photography. It’s freed me up a bit, and it’s one less thing to carry. Maybe I’m my own tripod now: taking extra care to avoid the slightest hint of camera shake (the 610 helps in that respect, since I can bump the ISO up - two or three stops - without any apparent loss of definition)…
