I do know the river, i've been to Stratford a few times but not for many years. My wife is ill at the moment so she probably wouldn't be able to manage too long a walk down the river but she should be OK around the butterfly farm. I do recall Stratford being a very pretty place in the summer sun, so we can sit by the river and i'll take some pictures. Sounds like i've got a plan.As well as the butterfly place, there is a beautiful walk by the river.
Super shot, I can almost hear it and smell it. Where is it?View attachment 772191

The butterfly place is just by the river. It gets very warm in there though. But they don't seem to mind tripods and flashes etc.I do know the river, i've been to Stratford a few times but not for many years. What a lovely spot.
If they are the butterflies then almost certainly. If its not too strenuous maybe we could walk the river.
I thought about the heat just a moment ago funnily enough, and i think she almost certainly won't be allowed to go in there by the doctors, at least not for a while, so actually looks like i may not be going there after all, yet.
Initially my idea was to visit Dudley Zoo, that's small enough to get around, plenty of seats and indoor areas and its only about 8 miles away. Onto plan B then!
I see some cracking butterfly shots in your macro album i'm guessing they're not from your garden, they don't look like native species, are those the pictures you mean or are there others i've missed?
That's no way to talk about your family! Thanks .... It's in Watkins Glen State Park in upstate New York . First time there yesterday .
Was visiting family semi-nearby and it was decided we'd go there on Saturday .
Good thing we got there early as it gets pretty crowded . It's a pretty spectacular place . It's almost like a slot canyon with a series of waterfalls within . We just did the trail (actually steps , 800+ of them over around 1.5 miles and around 400 feet rise IIRC) that went through the gorge as we had a couple of little kids along and they were pretty much shot when we got to the top .More pics later after I clone out the inevitable fatsos with fluorescent T-shirts .
Very nice.
What about West Midlands Safari park?
Might be easier on the Mrs. Hope it's nothing too serious.

No monkeys at the Safari Park. And the lions are pretty well fed!Not a chance i am driving my Merc through a pride of lions, i'd rather walk through! and as for those monkeys, goodbye wingmirrors. Thanks, but i'll give the safari park a miss - actually we could take her car!! lol
Sadly, my wife had a mastectomy last Friday and is still in hospital, so quite serious yes, but she's really strong and she'll win. No worries.
New York is a bit far from here, i'll try to find something nearer!
AFB and I were discussing the virtues of the 'fatsos with fluorescent T-shirts' recently. I'm actually really pleased it's not just a British phenomena. The waterfall i went to recently in Wales (https://www.nantcolwaterfalls.co.uk/walks.php) is also quite spectacular in parts, it wasn't as steep as that though, in fact if i had realised how steep Nantcol was i may not have gone, i wouldn't be venturing up 800 steps for 1.5miles. I bet there weren't many of those flourescent t-shirts at the top?
Looking forward to more pics.
Okay, here is another butterfly for you guys. We went to the Natural History Museum for a couple hours this morning and my daughter's and my favorite exhibit is the butterfly pavilion. The male half of our family gave up, and she and I would have stayed another hour if the boys weren't waiting for us. I really wanted a photo of one of these with their wings open, which are bright blue, but they really only open when they are flying, so super hard to photograph that way. I'm pretty sure this is a blue morpho.

Thank you.
Landscapes may be more forgiving on timing but not on everything else, composition, angles, light, subject, etc... I have a ready made excuse if my shot of a butterfly doesn't work (the bugger flew away!) or a great shot if it does (ooh, it took ages to get that one!) either way its really down to luck, your work on the other hand, doesn't not rely on luck. Yes, you need good light etc.. but you are either the luckiest person i have ever had the pleasure to meet or you're damn good at what you do. If anyone is in doubt about how 'lucky' you are they should look again.
Molly, have you and your family been to Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County MD, where they have a "Wings of Fancy" exhibit each spring/summer? It's fun and worth the trip and time, but sometimes when it is crowded it can be hard to get decent shots.
