Wait, is this the Udvar-Hazy Center out at Dulles? I've never been and I plan on going there soon (perhaps this upcoming weekend). I had visions of becoming an astronaut when I was a kid (and like so many with that dream I'm now an engineer) so I feel somewhat obligated to go and visit. And truth be told I thought it might also be a good place to take some pictures. Is it? (it's gotta be!)

We often hear about the desire for images to tell a story but this one is exceptional. Well done @mollyc :):):).

Thank you! I admit it’s a slight recreation of a photo I saw elsewhere, but that one was done as a silhouette, and I wanted to focus on my son looking in.

Yes, this is at Udvar-Hazy. Like any museum, there are always people getting in the way of a good shot. I only had my son with me today as my daughter was at camp and my husband at work, but I usually take photos of them observing the museum/sights, rather than shooting the stuff in the museum. ;)

There is an observation tower that lets you get a 360* view and looks out over the Dulles airport. We did see some planes today but it was pretty cloudy. On clear days you can see all the way to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Both times I’ve been there you could only see them through the haze. A clear day would be amazing.

I tried to figure this one out, but I give up. My best guess is the brightest star is Vega.

Love it! Not just the image itself - which is incredible - but space and all forms of aerospace/aviation have always been a passion of mine. I bet that young fella had a blast (pun intended) exploring the history of space travel.

Everglades scene at Fakahatchee. No 'gators in view unfortunately. Comments always appreciated.

I'd say more fortunately than unfortunate that gators weren't present! One beast you don't wanna mess with!
Wondering how this name is pronounced... o_O

Beauty! Let's see if I know my cars - I guessed it was European before seeing "Lancia," so I've got that - I'm gonna say mid to late 60s timeframe. I won't try to guess the model.

Continuing with the space/aerospace theme, sort of... the beautiful Beechcraft King Air

Very nice. I really like the primarily monochromatic look with the red light standing out underneath the plane (I have no idea what that particular light is called).

I don't know my Lancias hardly at all and unfortunately I was unable to get any information on this particular model. I'm quite confident that this model is from the 60's though. You may know that Lancias are an Italian marque.

Oh, you must go to Udvar-Hazy!!! It is an absolutely fascinating place with all kinds of planes and, yes, great shooting opportunities. Lighting can be a little dim in some areas, though, so be prepared for that.

This one was about 5' long I'd guess. A baby and far enough away...

I'm no expert but it's pronounced phonetically as in fah-kah-hat-chee as far as I know.

great shot. We go every so often to that museum. great place.
The last time we went was a special Behind-The-Scenes day they only do once a year. (this past time was 3/28)
we got to go back and see the room(s) you can see where they are working on things and learn how the recreate certain aspects. it was AWESOME.

that place is great!. on a weekday even better with less people. a MUST SEE place.

I so wish I had seen this car moving down the road. This is a 1911 Stanley Steamer that yes, actually runs on steam power. There are a couple of You Tube videos out there showing these running and unsurprisingly they sound like little steam engine trains. I thought the snakehead horn was interesting touch as well.

Where did you see this car? We saw one exactly like it out and about today. It was driving in town. I live in the Tysons area of northern Virginia. I realized it was the same car when I saw the snake head.

Every Saturday early (6-9am) at the Old Brogue Brogue & Katie's Coffee House there is a Cars & Coffee event in Great Falls, VA. That's close enough to where you live of course to convince me that it is probably one and the same car. Did you get to hear the car? I hope so, they sound like little train steam engines from what I can tell from videos.

I've been to the Great Falls C&C just twice since there are two weekly C&C's closer to me in Baltimore and Annapolis. But as there is generally more money in the DC area the cars there in Great Falls tend to be more 'interesting' (i.e.,older, more exotic, or more rare.). Thanks for letting me know the car actually runs and wasn't trailered there.

Yes it was right in front of us at a stoplight. Had a huge chunk of steam when it started. :)
