Thanks. It was some good fortune for sure. I also like how the light of the zinnia reflects off the iridescent chest as well. That really came out in post. I still see this little fella in the garden, with possibly a mate!Stunning photograph, I tried to get pictures of hummingbirds at my feeder years ago and I know how hard it is. Great DOF, just enough blur in the wings, and great composition.
Heh, the one shoot that blocks the beak just bugs me. If that wasn't there, I think that would be my favorite photo that I've ever taken. These are your reserves? I need to up my game!
We don't have a feeder out anymore, as the bees just take it over. Maybe if you are allowed flower pots, you could set out those with flowers they prefer and lure them in that way? They apparently love zinnias. Seems nearly every creature loves zinnias. I gain respect for that plant more with every passing year.I wish we had hummingbirds around here in my neighborhood, a condominium community, but oddly, we don't. I expect that part of the reason is that we are not allowed to put out feeders, so of course they are not going to be attracted here in the first place. I'd love the challenge of shooting them!
A second those who have praised your photo. It's quite beautiful! Thanks. It was some good fortune for sure. I also like how the light of the zinnia reflects off the iridescent chest as well. That really came out in post. I still see this little fella in the garden, with possibly a mate!
Now that you mention it, it is against the law in Alaska to feed wild animals such as moose. Place a lettuce or a cabbage at the edge of the porch, and the moose will be there each day waiting for more 😂People can have flower pots on their decks, and that's a great idea to try one filled with zinnias! Thank you!
However.....having anything on our decks which attracts the wildlife -- birds, insects, whatever -- is also a problem because while I was definitely enjoying having the squirrels and sparrows visiting my deck last summer eventually I learned that my neighbors didn't appreciate these guys also paying visits to their decks looking for more goodies and/or leaving "souvenirs"...... Things were happening outside my control. The bird seed also flew around when caught by the wind and landed on other people's decks, attracting unwanted (to them) visitors. Sigh..... That's why this summer I'm not having the fun that I did last year with my little furred and feathered friends and photographing them, as once I learned that oops, this wasn't something that I alone was enjoying, it was actually affecting neighbors in a negative way, I had to take in the birdseed and say a sad farewell to my little deck visitors. Some of them still occasionally land on the deck even now and look around, hoping to find treats......
Where about is that? Certainly Alps but perhaps Valais?Up in mountains with slow Internet, but will try. Spent evening at daughter’s AirBnB, retrieving personal stuff used for personal outings during restrictions, now first paying customers this weekend.View attachment 1812326View attachment 1812326
Gryon. Then had lunch at Solalex and hiked. Surprisingly busy for weekday. Packed with reservations but overflow picnic tables across road suited us fine.Where about is that? Certainly Alps but perhaps Valais?
