Part of the VLA . Giant radio telescope in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico . There's 27 of these antenna out on the plain listening for , I dunno , maybe classic rock from the Delta Quadrant? Amazingly the disks can be repositioned via a railroad which can move the disks closer or farther apart depending on what they're looking for and the Earth's position .

Great shot. Right up my alley too as I'm a big fan of astronomy.

Thanks . The trip to this place was an unplanned sideshow due to my getting down to Albuquerque from Santa Fe earlier than I'd planned . The VLA is truly in the middle of nowhere . Nearest town is Magdalena ( pix to follow) , about 20+ miles away . Got interrogated by the Marshal there . Just curious about my camera stuff . Anyway , the VLA is pretty neat . The pictures don't do it justice . Each of the discs are 80' in diameter and must be 100' high . And they move them around .

Geek p0rn... tell us more! :) I love that stuff too.

Had chance to work on the square kilometer array here in Europe, was well cool... but can't tell anyone anything about it... :-(

Tomorrow's pic today as I'm heading back East and will be in transit most of the day .

Just before I left the VLA , there were thunderstorms popping up all around . My thought was to go to the nearest town , have a bite for dinner and set my self up in a pullout somewhere along the road and wait for sunset so I could do some REAL night photography . Things didn't look to promising with the storms and general clouding up so back to my hotel .
