The best part...it is free. Park rangers ferry you across, but Ft Matanzas is supported by admission fees at the well known Castillio de San Marcos twelve miles away in St Augustine (photo yesterday). While the primary harbor is at St Augustine, this protected the back approach.

Related to the prior days photos. The dock where the rangers ferry you from is just before the white sand. Also, the outlet doesn't have a jetty so the channel shift past that bridge which is highway A1A. Highly recommend it as a shoreline drive between St Augustine and Daytona Beach. To the left of bridge is elevated trail through dunes to ocean and right of the bridge is the original tourist attraction, Marineland, which is in a poor state of repair and occupancy, nowhere near it's glory days.
