Is that taken from the cliffs above the beach. It's been several years but I have been to Black's beach many times. I went to one of my Navy photography schools in San Diego back in 1982. Used to be Miramar Naval Air Station, it is now a Marine Corp Air Station.
Exactly! Just above Black's Beach at the top of the cliffs and on the west side of the UCSD campus is the Torrey Pines Gliderport. I'll post a photo of some of the gliders above the cliffs today. There's even a viewing platform at the edge of the cliffs. That's where I was when I took this photo. No idea if the viewing platform or the gliders were there when you lived here. The ankle-breaking trail down to the beach is still there, though! ;)

As promised to @bondr006, here's a look down the coast from the Torrey Pines Gliderport in Torrey Pines, Calif. That's Black's Beach in the lower left corner, then in the distance you can see Scripps Pier and past that on the horizon is La Jolla. Scripps Pier is used for research as well as boat launching, and is part of the world famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Also there are a jillion instagram photos of sunsets or waves or both, shot from under the pier. Though it looks like it could be an aerial, this photo was taken from a platform at the edge of the cliffs.
