A few summers ago I tried feeding the birds on my deck and along with them came squirrels. It was a lot of fun but after a while it became more and more overwhelming as additional birds joined the gang. My neighbors weren't thrilled by this, either, as the birds and squirrels also investigated their decks looking around for more goodies, so I reluctantly had to stop. Occasionally now I do sprinkle some bird food in our common grounds area that is between our buildings.

We put peanuts in a feeder for Steller's Jays and California Scrub Jays and seed in feeders for other birds. Our neighbor likes them as it got their young son interested in birding.

It makes a big difference, living in a single-family dwelling as opposed to a condominium multi-family dwelling! We have just a small front "yard" and at the rear, the lake serves as our "back yard."
