I visited Nankin Lake (Wayne County, MI) early this morning to take some pictures, and just as I was about to leave, a green heron perched on a log. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to adjust my camera settings properly, but the shot still turned out pretty good. I never realized how small Green Herons are until I saw it flying and initially mistook it for an ordinary bird. Nature has certainly equipped this bird well for protection, as its small size and ability to blend into the background make it difficult for predators to spot.
