My first long exposure with the 4x5 camera.

135mm, ISO 400, f32, 26 minutes

The shot metered at four minutes but reciprocity failure pushed it out to 26 minutes. I took a whopping three photographs that night and had to wait a week and a half before I knew if I got anything. ;)

Or a raven. At first I thought of a crow, but the profile more fits a raven. A crow usually has a sleeker body and longer tail. It has a pecking beak, not a curved, flesh tearing bird of prey beak.

Yeah it's certainly one of the two. I thought a crow actually. I was being daft about the red tailed hawk.

Ruins of Whitby Abby, Yorkshire...

I love Whitby. I missed a fantastic photo opportunity a few years back when I visited. I was in the town at night and the moon was really low over the abbey, which was in silhouette, some eerie looking clouds were hanging around and it looked like something out of a horror film. I didn't have the knowledge or experience (or tripod and decent camera) to enable me to capture it and it's bugged me ever since. It was around Halloween too at the end of Goth Week in Whitby so it was perfect.

I love Whitby too. I believe that's where Bram Stoker got his inspiration for Dracula too, right? After leaving the abbey just after sunset, we headed back into town but it was deserted, which seemed kind of odd. Then we started noticing the pub signs that said, The Slaughtered Lamb and other eery phrases (or at least it seemed that way to us.) It was like being in a horror movie and finding the locals locking up for the night.

"Stay on the path and beware the moon."

Seriously well done, beautiful tones, great detail, nice clarity and it' not a bad subject choice either, that's some really nice architecture. I was reading recently about how it's harder to blow out the highlights on film as compared to a sensor. I have a feeling that eventually, I will be headed to medium format territory. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

I've got a red tailed hawk (I think) in the bag for tomorrow.

So as promised here id the Red Tailed Hawk! He is the UK variety so looks a little different! Also he is hiding as he is camera shy.

For anyone in the Dudley area, I went to Saltwells Nature reserve and had a great time. I've never been birding before, but it was hard not to get some good shots. I'll post more over the next few days.

Comments always welcome.

Wow is Dan still working there? I visited the Hoover Damn in 1999 and got a tour from Dan our Damn guide. He was great. Wonder if it was the same guy.

A sign of how old you're getting is if you visit the local garden centre on a Sunday......

Today's entry. Quirky & colourful. Almost cartoon-like.
