Very interesting! The photo reminds me of the rough terrain found in the interior of Alaska. In the early 1900's, there was a roadhouse called "Black Rapids" next to this creek, and there was another roadhouse about 20 miles down the Valdez Trail (now called The Richardson Highway). In those years the trail was used by travelers between Valdez and Fairbanks on foot, or on horse-pulled wagons. On a winter day some travelers who reached the next roadhouse were buried by an avalanche. I believe that 6 people died that day, as the avalanche swept over the roadhouse.
