"Bunny Wabbit"

I havnt had a chance to post a photo in a while, my classes are actually starting to pile up and good old finals are in 2 weeks. For this reason, I havnt had time to go out shooting, but I saw this little fella on my way to class and he/she/it was next to my dorm so I grabbed my trusty camera and took a snap...it felt good!

Went camping with the family. But it's hard to find time and energy when a 4 and a 6 year old also demand attention. This one is taken during a short walking trip in an area that's famous for its hedges.

I agree, very nice shot.

Does the water spray look like that normally or has it been altered?
Thanks! No alterations. It looks like that when you use a longer shutter speed.
Here's another from further down river, i used an aperture of f/22 so that i could leave the shutter open for 4.5s...

It's a (relatively) simple procedure that requires a sturdy tripod, a cable release, a long(ish) exposure and, erm... moving water.

It's something you can do on a dull day, 'cos you don't want too much light. The still parts of the pic stay in sharp focus; the water becomes a sinuous blur. Start with, say, 1/10sec... and experiment with exposures in whole seconds... :)

Killin, Scotland

Beautiful day here today, so went for a run in the car and ended up in Killin.

Struggled to get the shutter speeds required though, due to the bright sunshine, but i did manage to find this small waterfall away from the main ones.

I'm guessing this is a close-up of a cactus.. Love it!

One handheld RAW // HDR // Shutter: 1/320 // Aperture: f/14 // Focal Length: 400 mm // ISO 250

...this was my photoblog post for today, and I can't decide on it. Did the HDR treatment screw it up? Should I have not processed it as much? Usually I know for sure if a processing treatment works or not, but such is not the case here. Comment/critique welcome.

Carlos - I love your wascally wabbit photo.

In my opinion, while the HDR helps accentuate the colors, it makes the photo seem a bit too unnatural. Perhaps the original with some dodging/burning and a saturation boost would be more effective?

Yes. I think the HDR halo is the telltale sign of having been pushed too far.

Erm... I climbed up a hill... ;)

Valdore... I wouldn't say it's impossible to use the HDR process on portraits... only that I can't remember seeing a portrait where it represents an improvement. Maybe it's too blunt an instrument for the subtleties of the human face (and it tends to make people look a bit grubby, like they need a wash). :)

TommyD... I know the problems of photographing waterfalls in bright sunshine: how to get a slow enough shutter speed. So I tend to photograph them on dull days, and that seems to work fine.
