Really nice lighting here. Your EXIF says the flash didn't fire, but surely one did. Was it remote and therefore not picked up by the EXIF?

Thanks. It was off-camera flash, 580 EX II to camera right, fired with a remote trigger.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I've found that everyone poses for the camera, even little kids. I wait for the moments between the poses and try to make my subjects as relaxed as possible before snapping my photo. I'm not coaching them to look like this. I'm just interacting with them waiting to see what they will give me.

Yes, everyone with a camera tries to get their kids to pose and smile, instead of letting them just be themselves... and letting their characters show through.

Giving the steam engine a quick wipe-down before the first trip of the day...

I was in Borneo this time last year, now we're trying to sample the rainforest in our chamber in Manchester.
