Finally got a good squirrel today. What I like about this one is it's as shot (no PP), which for some reason is always more satisfying (to me anyway).

Comments always welcome.

Good job. He's a cute little fella. It's always good when you're happy with a shot SOOC.

Having said that.....with a little PP it could be even better. If it was me I'd give it little bit of clarity, a bit of vibrance and lower the highlights. That's just me though.

Edit:

I had a REALLY quick go with it in Lightroom to show you what I mean. It's all subjective though isn't it and what one person likes isn't necessarily right. A lot of people don't like vignetting for example but I think it suits this shot.

Hope you don't mind me fiddling with it. I haven't spent any time finessing it but I thought I'd give you an idea of what I meant. It's a really good shot though and I think one of the best you've posted.

Edit edit:

Lol. Just had someone favourite your squirrel pic on my Flickr photostream. I post pics on there pretty much every day and they rarely get favourited. I post one that someone else took so I can link to it......

Thanks. I don't mind you fiddling. I was showing my daughter this thread earlier, and she referred to your commuter shots as stalker shots! I like the one with the two ladies and the moving tube. Just enough motion to differentiate from the people.

I call them that myself so she's spot on there :)

It makes me chuckle when I take a shot of someone and when I check it afterwards there's another person in the frame who I hadn't been concentrating on and they're looking directly into the lens with a look on their face that says "What the f...."

I'm going to start asking people on the street if I can take their portraits soon as I keep seeing interesting people and missing out on a shot because I'm too self conscious to ask them if it's ok. What's the worse that could happen.....London....mugging.... ;)

I shot a herring today, but I didn't get the focus right so binned it.

Difficult to focus underwater though I guess......

Speaking of focus - I see from the EXIF on your squirrel that your shutter speed was 1/60. If you're shooting at 300mm the general rule of thumb is to have a shutter speed equal to or greater than your focal length. That way you can ensure that your shot is nice and sharp.

I was using a tripod. Doesn't that change the rule?

A very cool shot MacRy. Besides your usual spot-on exposure and focus, this one has that something extra WOW effect. I think it's the contrast between the motion blur of the train and the sharply focused ladies. Nicely done!

I'm still fixated on the whole perspective thing...

This way to the egret .......

Thanks Peter I appreciate the compliment. I'm glad you like it. I took three of them with the train moving but only this one was the shot I had in mind.

Finding a cat and a glass is easy. Finding a Powerbook however... :)

Aaahh, the old 2008 MBP, that just wont die! After having the graphics card swapped out by Apple... I use it for tethered shooting and making sure my focus is tickety-boo! Especially when using the tilt-shift lens for architectural photographs. She's running up to date Mavericks, not too bad for an old girl. :D

Went for a bit of a 70's retro film feel on the PP with this one.
