What a great idea for a photo project! Involves a bit of background research as well as the obvious photography and post skills. Keep it coming.
Thanks ! I drive by that location maybe once a week . I'd known that the stone wall and gates ( there's a number of them) belonged to estates that were bought up ( by John D. Rockefeller ) in the 1920's, donated to the state and razed as a condition of the donation , in order that a park and scenic drive be created along the top of the Palisades , and along the river . Only one of the mansions remains , used as the headquarters of the Park Police . A lot of the landscaping and sitework remains , though. If you walk along the trail on top , you'll come across bits of cobblestoned drives , curbing , pieces of columns and cornice work . There's spots of flowering bulbs that appear in the spring , too.
There's at least 1 , and I seem to remember a second , foundation that remains pretty intact .Plus at least one swimming pool with a tree growing in it. We used to hang out along the cliffs when I was in my late teens, but at that time none of us regarded it as any more than a place to loiter and drink beer . Anyway , there's places that are on my summer day trip exploration list . No beer this time though .

Stunning! Did you take that as the wave was moving out to sea to get the leading lines in the sand?

Thanks Ken. Yes, this was taken when the wave was receding. My first reaction was to shoot with the wave coming in to shore but as the light graciously cooperated I realized that I had it backwards.

I have quite a few of these to post after my trip to Knowsley Safari Park. Lots of fun, and some great access with the Wild Arena team. Highly recommended if it's your sort of thing http://www.wildarena.com

I liked the emotion in this one. I have some even better face on ones, but as they were sitting right by the fence, we were not able to get close enough to lose the wire.

Out for a bit between showers today. Tried to get a bit of cloud movement with long exposure but not really long enough.... Comments always appreciated.

Probably not the right clouds & lighting for a long exposure. I like it just the way it is...beautiful. Well done anotherscotsman.

First thought: I love green. Think that's from spending a year in the Sinai. The only colors were blue (sky and water), brown (desert) and white (clouds). When I left my plane stopped in Ireland. I wanted to run from the terminal and kiss the ground...green at last.

Photo of the Day May 2015

I've learned something really cool today about my camera but it has also left me really confused so maybe someone can explain it to me in simple monosyllabic words that I'll understand.

About a year ago I bought a lens from eBay that came with a free 2x Teleconvertor, which I wasn't too fussed about to be honest but I thought I'd give it a go as it would have made the 135mm it came with a 270mm. I tried it and it didn't work. It just wouldn't focus at all. I stuck it in my camera bag and forgot about it. Tonight, whilst I was lamenting the minimum focus distance of my new Voigtlander Nokton, I had a brainwave - "I wonder if it turns my lenses into macro glass?"

So yeah.....it does. Which is awesome. But I thought extension tubes did that and teleconvertors effectively cropped/doubled your focal length. What's the deal with them?

Thanks Peter, you're right of course, too bright even with polariser and ND filter only got to about 1sec exposure. Here's one from a little earlier before the sun started to set. Comments always appreciated.

Beautiful

----------

I know not technically perfect due to the power lines, I did not have a chance to really prepare for this shot. I was in my room and looked out and noticed some color in the sky, grabbed my camera and opened the front door to what you see. I tried to get another shot of this and also one with my iPhone but the sun was already gone. Shot with a Canon T5i in RAW format.

Was out taking a walk in our neighborhood and happened to notice this as I looked up after shooting a different subject.
