It's May on the International Dateline.

Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

Policies

*One Photo per Day - Don't post more than one photo each day.

*Multi-Quote - To comment on several photos, click the "+ (Multi-Quote) button. This puts all your comments in one post. Multi-Quoting is required on all of the MacRumors forums.

*SFW (Safe for Work) only - This is a site - wide rule. If you wouldn't show it in a public place, then it's NSFW (not safe for work). Think before you post.

*Describe your photo - Tell what it is and where you took it. If you know the EXIF data of a photo, include it. The following EXIF fields are recommended: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, Shutter/Aperture and Lens.

Note: Anyone may start the Photo of the Day thread on the first of the month GMT. Please copy a quote of this post to maintain all the formatting.

It does when I plug it into my vintage Pioneer amp and through my B&O speakers. The neighbours are going to regret playing Ed Sheeran's Shape of You five times in a row this morning ;)

Bass and acoustic amps right?
Yup. Back in the day they were a big name. We had a few stars in testing this and that.

Convict Lake, California. Critic away.

To save you a search... here is why it's called Convict Lake...

"Convict Lake and Creek are so named as the result of an AMBUSH encounter here September 17, 1871, where a group of inmates escaped from prison in Carson City. Sheriff George Hightower eventually caught up with the convicts and a shoot out took place. Robert Morrison a Benton Merchant, Mono Jim and other posse members encountered the convicts on the present Convict Creek, then known as Monte Diablo Creek. In the encounter Morrison and Mono Jim were killed and the convicts escaped to be captured later in Round Valley. The towering peak above the lake was re-named Mt. Morrison and the smaller one below it Mono Jim. "

Great story. Great colors and scenery. However I don't like the square format. Is this because it was made for instagram? And it could be sharper, look at the rocks in the foreground. Is this also the result of instagram?

Anyhow, just my opinion. But since you wanted it...

Got the chance to photograph an incredible Harris Hawk yesterday. Such a beautiful creature and my word they are quick. Too fast for my panning motion on the camera that was for sure - 100 pictures of an empty tree later and I found ways to capture this beauty. Also got to hold her, tickle her tummy, feel the textures of her talons an her beak. Really quite taken with her to be honest. Maybe I have gone overboard on the intro to this one.

We can give you tips in real time!
Buy a Nikon! ;)

I've looked through your shots on Flickr and you have some nice ones there.

Thanks mate. That makes me happy. I think while the pack (other course attendees) were chasing the bird, I took the approach of hanging back and watching its behaviour before taking off then trying to pe empt where it would be and get the shot otherwise i was just getting lovely empty tree images
