Oh yeah forgot the whole talk to your phone to control it thing. I feel such a Pratt doing that so no siri expertise here.

What do you think of your tbMBP? Mine is the first retina screened MBP I have had and I love the crispy acreen but the touch bar is a bit gimmicky for me until they incorporate it into more apps.

Hmm, so the image looks clipped on all my devices maybe it is just me being blind... Ignore me...

Fantastic device, the tbMBP. I have had many many generations since the PowerPC onwards now, this thing is fast, quiet and extremely fun to use. I had the 12 inch as well, so am quite used to the keyboard feel as well now. Yes, the touch bar needs a bit more polish and use, but bettertouchtool does a pretty good job of introducing us to power features that are possible. On the whole, I really like the machine. With my other hardware, I needed only a couple of cables for all of them to be compatible with the USB-c ports and I have a hyperdrive and an old satechi which I bought for my 12" (because it has an Ethernet port just in case) shoved in my bag just in case I need some backward compatibility.

If you want tips just give me a shout!

Actually Mrs AFB loves having me around!
Been married 21 years this year so I must be doing something right.
I understand perfectly - part of the reasoning behind taking an early bath was so that we can spend more time together.

Cheers :)

"Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints."

Larbrax Bay
May 2017

This is a well known quote that I feel should be a core principle for any landscape photographer and I am sure the majority of people who enjoy the outdoors would agree.

Pardon the pun, but I stumbled across the image at Larbrax Bay as I turned around to see if there was any potential for one last shot as the 'blue hour' slowly deepened, long after sunset. When I noticed the footprints I had just made formed an interesting composition, the quote "Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints" sprung into my head and I then had to set up quickly to get the shot. Good timing and getting the right shutter speed to capture the motion of the incoming flow was key to making the shot work. I got one 'practice' go at 1/4 second where a wave washed in close (but not enough to wash away the footprints) in order to get the right motion blur. However, I needed 1 second rather than 1/4 second so I had to open up to f5.6 from f11 which wasn't ideal as I'd lost some depth of field. It was a necessary trade off as I don't generally like shooting at higher ISO's for these type of shots and had already set myself at ISO 400 rather than the base ISO 200. I got another shot afterwards where the wave is in the process of washing over the footprints and they are half-visible but it lacked the aesthetic and visual impact of this shot.

I love the symbolism of this image and the deeper message it conveys.

One of my favourite flowers in the garden, some Pepino flowers, these are tiny little things and Pepino's are also one of my favourite fruits to eat.

Great picture but not-so-great subjects/specimens...

My father passed up on one of these in 1970 for an Opel GT?! Everybody makes mistakes!

You got some wonderful shots from your trip out there!

Thanks John. Have to say that I can't wait to get back there.

I really like the way you've framed this shot to take advantage of your use of shallow depth of field. Well done mollyc.
