It's been 4 years since my last visit to this location and I feel I should make more regular trips. I love the dreamy, surreal feel to this image.

My favourite of yours so far.
Do you see the final image before pressing the shutter or when you see the exposure?

Congratulations! Happy Retirement!
Thanks! Sometimes I do see the final image and sometimes I don't. I don't think I did with this one. Macro is not my forte and I've really tried to stretch myself this month with it; I've had a lot that I "pre-visioned" that came out horribly and were immediately deleted. On the other hand, with some of the macro images this month, they ended up looking very differently on screen than what I saw when I was shooting. Like the heart shaped petal one, I didn't see it as hearts (because a lot of these flowers are really quite small) until seeing on a 27" screen.
That said, with my "normal" photography of my kids, family, life, etc., I do often see the final image as I click and then I spend time editing to make it look the way it did in my head. A lot of my all-time favorite images I see in my head as I compose/shoot but the SOOCs don't match what I was feeling, so I play with the colors, etc. to align the vision and final image.
The second paragraph kind of indicates a need to shoot RAW. It is funny, the stages we go through with this digital stuff; right now I am heading towards just using the jpgs from the X_T2 and keeping the RAW as a sort of backup. The OOC stuff has really opened my eyes as to seeing before I click, as in the film days. The rather flat, lifeless RAW files that need production have always been a bit of a dissappointment to me. I suppose that is why, with my own stuff I have tended to over-do it.
Shooting for money is a no brainer RAW but when it is for yourself the OOC stuff can be a lot more satisfying and in some way exciting; especially if you can resist the chimping.
In your place I think recognising my own talent would be good (I have always known my limits). Your final product is, of those I have seen is very stylish and full on colourful. Good stuff.

Yeah, it's making me a bit wary of uploading any macro stuff though.I absolutely love the style of your images!
