While I was sitting in the garden yesterday playing with a new Cokin Oval C. Spot filter I was pointing the camera at the bird bath to take an experimental shot, and these two pigeons landed to take a drink.
I couldn't resist the opportunity to press the shutter - the filter is why there's a white vignette around them ;)

Sky rats. When you see a pigeon, you should shoot, but not with a camera!

This is an example of "don't like the weather...wait a few minutes". The last minute of the setting sun poked through the clouds in the valley behind us and we got this light just long enough to grab a couple shots.

Must have been a 50 people there at the viewpoint and we all cheered when the sun completely set..it was a very cool moment.

Rats with wings was the expression I would hear all the time.

is this the April thread?

I really like this. The simplicity of the composition (which is quite effective), the colors, and the pop of the yellow. Of course now I have a desire for a vodka martini. Too bad I'm at work. ;)

I'm not surprised they cheered if they all came away with a shot this good.
I'd have been over the moon!

These are Wood Pigeons, not the vermin you see in the towns and cities; totally different and far more endearing.

Cheers :)

Hugh
Wood pigeons are pretty much the same.

We chase them out of our garden.

We get Sparrows (lots), a few tits (blue, great and coal), two robins and three blackbirds.
They all get fed daily.

Thanks .... I went back today to retake the courtyard I posted Monday , and brought the 12-24 with the hope of maybe getting a better composition . Anyway , while I was there , I decided to play around taking close images at wide settings with shallow DOF . The lens is stupidly wide , has this bulbous front element , and really needs to be stopped down some to get a decent image . It should also be leveled on a tripod to prevent all sorts of strange optical things from occurring . I was neither stopping down nor paying any attention to leveling , knowing there'd be some unusual stuff occurring . Took a bunch of shots around the grounds and , so far , this worked about the best to my eye .

I have the Nikon 14-24mm which has similar issues. But is beautiful for landscapes.

I also have a 10.5mm fisheye but I rarely use it.

Different day, different dandelion.

I found a dandelion that was growing in the cracks of the stones on our deck. This let me avoid the messy backgrounds of the ones in the grass. Opted for a ring light on the end of the lens rather than an off camera flash. There was a light intermittent rain that day and I caught this early (later it rained enough that all the dandelions collapsed under the weight of the water).
